AFC West teams eyeing Utah pass-rusher

March 27, 2009 3:30 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

Here is a name for AFC West fans to watch as the April 25-26 draft approaches: Paul Kruger.

The junior defensive end from Utah is being closely examined by the Broncos and the Chiefs. Denver has already worked out Kruger and the Chiefs are set to work him out next week. Oakland has also expressed an interest.

Kruger is considered a potential pass-rush star. All three of those teams need pass-rushing help, especially Kansas City and Denver. Kruger, who had 7.5 sacks for the undefeated Utes in 2008, has been compared to Jared Allen and Patrick Kerney.

At 6-foot-4, 263 pounds, Kruger is a high-motor player who is rising up draft boards and who will likely be taken in the second or third round.

The Broncos are looking for pass rushers who can play defensive end or linebacker in a 3-4 defense. The Chiefs are also considering moving to a 3-4.

The Chiefs set an NFL record last season for the fewest sacks in a season with 10. They will likely look at several pass rushers. If Kruger, 25, does end up with the Chiefs, it will be his second stint in Kansas City.

He spent his two-year Mormon mission, which delayed his college career, in Kansas City.

Not only is he missing a kidney, he's missing other vital organs and some other important body parts.

The guy is Mr. Bad Luck. There was an article posted in maybe January that detailed all of his ailments.

He's got quite a few.

a 10 Foot Broad jump is horrible.....

On a side note, when will they quit calling it a Broad Jump?

1955 just called, they want their terminology back.

Yeah, so he would have been top 5 in both broad jump and short shuttle. Not too bad.

There were only 5 defensive ends to do 10' or better this past February.

How many do better than 10' in a "normal" year?

I guess, but did that when I was 12......

Sure, I was just a "tad" bit lighter though... ;)

Not many, they're usually the unrefined guys like Maybin.

Barwin had a 10'8 broad!

What a steal we got with Allen, the NFL isn't going to let that happen again(to that extent).

On a side note, when will they quit calling it a Broad Jump?Haven't you ever watched the combine? They have cheerleaders lay down at the end of the runway. That last two or three usually get pretty banged up by the time the day's over.

Why can't the Chiefs get players like Jared Allen?

Oh wait.........

I know its old news but Peterson should have been fired on the spot for trading Allen. And then they draft Dorsey. When they had Allen.

They should've fired CP before that tragedy. Allen would've been willing to negotiate a long term contract with a new GM, I'm sure. He liked KC, just not Carl.
