I saw them open for Phish in 1994 in Alabama. Did not enjoy.

Not only do they suck, Dave's voice is a blight on humanity.

Heh. I couldn't stand them because their followers were a bunch of frat drunks, not hippies. I was hard core Phish/Dead hippie back then, and I thought their crowd were a bunch of drunken idiots (in contrast to tripping idiots).

I'm a big fan, despite the fact it's apparently not cool here on CP. Good choice Sam, #41 one of my favorites. I appreciate the fact that they really seem to enjoy playing, and Dave comes across as an everyman that gets how lucky he is. Beyond that, they use an interesting mix of instruments (at least to me), and it flows pretty well.

Well, sounds like you know what you're talking about in realation to their fans. Just to clarify - YOU'RE the stoner hippie and Penz is the frat boy drunk? :D

Former stoner hippie, but correct. ;)

I actually like their music okay now, I just never got over that initial bad experience enough to really embrace them.

Honestly, I like dave, their drummer is one of my favs, I hate their sandel wearing fans. I love metal and love kicking the shit out of people, but I like dave when I am just a sucker for O.A.R and Dave for the simple fact. It feels good grilling and listening to them :)

I love some of Dave's earlier work, IE Before these crowded streets, crash, things before everyday. I owe Dave alot of hookups in the past, I would learn a decent amount of the songs on acoustic guitar and play them for women I was dating and it would just almost be a guarantee.

41 is still one of my favorite songs of all time.

I'm a Rock/Metal head, but I love Dave, and his band. A model of diversity, and one of the best, and most talented bands to EVER grace the world with music.

Every conversation I've had about Dave Matthews since the nineties:

DMB Fan: I love Dave Matthews you ever listen to his music?

Me: Not really. I don't listen to that type of music.

DMB Fan: You gotta see em live. DMB is awesome live.

Me: Not really a jam band guy. Long unending instrumentals aren't really my thing.

DMB Fan: Dude I'm telling you, if you went to one show it would change your life.

Me: That's cool if you like em, just not what I'm into.

DMB Fan: You would feel different if you saw DMB live.

Don't sweat it I really don't know anything about the genre. I tend to lump anything with overextended insturmentals as being a jam band.

Crash is one of my favorite albums of all time. They're one of my favorite bands. American Baby was the only album I didn't pick up. It just didn't do it for me. I liked Dave's 2003 solo effort a lot too.

I usually listen to rock radio so the first time I heard DMB was about 1995 when I was driving to Florida listening to other stations. At first I thought it was a new Peter Gabriel song I didn't know, I've seen Gabriel in '88 and '93 and he's been a favorite of mine since the 70's. Anyway, over the years I've heard DMB occasionally on the radio and on TV they have shown him on the HD Music channels in concert and I just can't get into his music. I just find it irritating, kind of like a cutting edge Hootie and the Blowfish, which is not good. Sorry.
