I have a RCA HDTV BOUGHT ABOUT 3 YEARS ago (without HDTV hooked up) I have Direct TV with TIVO... it the unit pictured below.
http://images.fixya.com/R/RCA/177x150/21517486.JPG

The picture has gotten real bad over the past month or so, I have a LCD tv in the bedroom that looks great hooked up to the same dish, I have checked all cables and this picture looks bad...
there is black snow sorta in the picture... is this tv toast? is it time to purchase a new one? look at the pic below, even on my cell the pic sucks

http://i40.tinypic.com/24l98oh.jpg

I went to Walmart to get a new one, but don't want to make a poor choice... I plan to upgrade to HDTV service on Directv soon, was looking at this tv (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8477432) and wondering if it is a good one and if not advise ....

Was hoping not to spend much over 1000

Thanks

You may need to get the projector on the inside cleaned.

There may be cobwebs in there and dust thats making the picture all bad.

I'm assuming its rear-projection?

Oh, and thats a great price on that Vizio.

Personally, I would just dump the old TV for that one. It'll cost between $100 and $200 to get that other one cleaned, and that may not even be the issue.

Vizio is like buying a ford pinto and pretending you are driving a Porsche.

Heres the Difference.

Plasma - Smoother picture quality, but you have to use low light settings on the TV for the first 100 hours + you cant keep a stagnant image on the screen or else you'll get burn in. Also, the Picture Quality will degrade after 10 years or so due to the Gasses on the inside escaping the TV. Also, you can never lay this TV on its side.

LCD - You can view from wide angles, and the TV will last a very long time, but there usually is pixelation with fast movement on the screen. If you buy a 120Hz refresh rate TV, it won't be as big a problem, but still not as good as Plasma. There is no Burn-In issue with LCDs.

Heres a quote from someone on the internet.

"The main thing I like about Vizio is their customer service. If you have a problem with the television they will send a technician to you, instead of making you ship the television back to the manufacturer."

Also if you are going to buy an LCD at least make sure it is 120hz. I would also make sure it was 1080P but that is just me.

WELL that problem has been cured
Went ahead and got the HDDVR from Directv.... at first they wanted to charge me for it and the installation but I told them I needed to check with Dish Network first.. (of course they don't have Sunday ticket and this is just a tactic) then they said wait, you are a LOYAL CUSTOMER, I said, yes I am, and I got the HDDVR + install free except 10 bucks xtra per month for the HD

I cannot believe the difference, I have seen HD before on others tv but until you have it on your own to compare the hd vs non hd channels the difference is amazing, I am really digging this golf and I am not even a big fan.

Oh and my old tv I was gonna junk must not be so old because I am playing this in 1080p.

Thanks for all the help
