The longer this goes, the more and more I am beginning to think X will not be a Jayhawk. I feel there is a better chance we will land Lance now. In the end, Cole and Sherron are returning so....eh...whatever.

Hoping we hear something soon tho...

Basketball recruits Xavier Henry and his brother, C.J., plan on visiting Kentucky the weekend of April 25-26, the players’ father, Carl Henry, told the Lexington Herald-Leader on Wednesday. The two players, who have been released from the Memphis letters-of-intent, also have KU and Memphis on their list. Carl Henry has told Rivals.com Memphis likely is not an option.

Henry update: Xavier Henry on Tuesday said in an ESPN.com chat that he and his brother, C.J., will visit Kentucky before choosing a school.

C.J. Henry is a 6-3 freshman guard at the University of Memphis; Xavier a 6-6 guard who has signed with Memphis. Both have been released from their letters-of-intent following John Calipari’s decision to leave Memphis for Kentucky.

“We’ve never been out there (Kentucky),” Xavier said of he and his brother. “After that (visit sometime next week), we’ll take a couple of days and probably make our decision.”

Henry, who will play in the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday in New York, said he and his brother will definitely attend the same school. C.J. will be a walk-on at KU or Kentucky. His education is paid for by the New York Yankees, who made him a first-round draft pick in the summer of 2005.

Xavier said the decisions of Collins and Aldrich would not impact his decision.

“It just helps to know that we’ll have a good team if we go to Kansas,” he said.

“There are a lot of things,” he added of key factors in the decision-making process. “Me and my brother making sure we’re happy where we're going. Keeping my family happy and keeping them together is what I'm basing my decision on.”

Three of the Henrys will discuss recruiting a bit this weekend. C.J. and mom Barbara will be in New York to support Xavier at the Brand Classic.

Carl Henry, father of C.J. and Xavier, told Rivals.com on Tuesday he thought Memphis was not an option for the duo.

It pains me (somewhat) to say it – believe me. But, as of right now, I’m officially washing my hands of him and his situation. I no longer care. If Aldrich and Collins come back, we can compete for the national championship either way. Besides, who needs a one-and-doner? Seriously. Who needs him? But, lest you think it is an emotional position for me, it’s not. The facts simply say… He ain’t coming to Lawrence. And if you think he is, you are delusional – in my humble opinion, of course.
1) Xavier has had his entire life to consider being a Jayhawk. You and I might wonder how it is possible that he could have ever considered anything else. As you know, his father and mother played basketball at Kansas. Where else would their son go if he’s a superstar basketball player??? So, the question becomes “Why didn’t he choose KU in the first place?” I’ll tell you why… BECAUSE HE DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY HERE! If he did, he’s had many opportunities to simply choose KU.
2) Even when it looked like his Memphis dream had been crushed, he wouldn’t commit to Kansas. Instead, he delayed making a decision based on his brother C.J. Supposedly they want to play together. Oh, yeah… like CJ is ever going to spend 30 seconds on the AFH floor as a walk on! Sure, X put out platitudes that would imply he was reconsidering Kansas, but let me ask you something. What on earth is there to learn about KU that he hasn’t known for 18 years? I’ll give you the answer… NOTHING! Whatever it is that KU has, he doesn’t want. He wants something that KU cannot provide, because if KU could provide it, he would have been a Hawk-at-Heart a long time ago.
3) While I believe Carl may well want Xavier and C.J. to come to KU – or even Xavier without C.J., he clearly has no choice in the matter. If he did, he would have already made it happen months ago. His recent quote was… “it would be the dream to have them play at Kansas, but if they choose something different, they choose it, not me.” Well, they already chose it. It already wasn’t Carl’s choice. What has changed? The only thing that has changed is that Carl’s quotes now conflict since he also wants him to “follow Coach Cal”.
4) We might have thought there was a new variable (Calipari leaving), but there isn’t. Xavier is now saying that after the Jordan Brand Classic on April 18, he is planning on visiting Kentucky. Huh? Where did Kentucky come into this? Obviously, Calipari is in Lexington. And… let’s see… DeMarcus Cousins switched from Memphis to Kentucky. What about John Wall? Supposedly, Wall has indicated that Kentucky has a strong chance to get him too. Ok, what is the single missing piece to the Memphis dream? Well, it’s Xavier himself. All he has to do is say, “I’m coming to Kentucky” and the original dream is fulfilled – except that it is at the greatest basketball school in history instead of at some Johnny-come-lately Memphis. So, why else on earth would he be visiting Kentucky except to see if he can keep the dream together? The only question is whether C.J. can play with him at Kentucky. But, if that is critical, he isn’t coming to Kansas anyway. He would stay at Memphis since C.J. hasn’t got clearance to play with another school yet. My point is that the C.J. issue isn’t what is keeping him from coming to Kansas. It’s something else.
5) The Jordan Brand Classic couldn’t be worse timing. Rather than make a decision prior to it, he stated he would not make a decision until it was over. Ok, fine. The only problem for KU hopefuls is that guess who else is playing along side him. DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall. What are the odds that the three of them will have a great time and relive their combined dream together? All they have to do is simply change the logo from a Tiger to a Wildcat. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
What probably hurts KU the most in this is that even though Xavier was never coming to Kansas IMO, Lance Stephenson was. He was signed, sealed and delivered to KU until Calipari decided he was going to Kentucky. During the past two weeks, I’m sure Self has done everything possible to make Stephenson feel like he’s still just as wanted as before, but clearly he’s not buying it. If he were buying it, he would have committed two weeks ago like he planned. Nope, he recognizes that Kansas would rather have one of their “own” – not some trouble-making New Yorker. He was smart to immediately realize he’s the second choice. If he overcomes that and picks KU anyway – meaning it would be official that Henry would not pick KU, he will immediately impress me. However, he’s being treated like the one-legged 80 pound girl in high school gym class who gets picked last. The guy is a superstar. Any bruised egos can be washed way by eight million New Yorkers .78 seconds after he says the word “Saint….” Self has got to know he will not get Henry, so the latest yardstick to measure his brilliant recruiting ability will be whether or not Stephenson comes to Kansas anyway.
I doubt that Kansas will end up with either – and that’s ok. I’ve got a post prepared on one-and-dones already. I just don’t know what to do with it yet – what the emphasis should be – what the punch line is. But, I can tell you that it feels pretty good to not be thought of as a one-and-done school. I wouldn’t be surprised if the NBA eventually (and maybe sooner than you might think) opts for a two-year requirement instead of one. If that happens, Kansas will be in an even better position. Instead of Calipari’s “Fast Track to the NBA”, it will be Self’s “Steady Sophomore Express”.
Now, if I’m wrong about all this, I’m wrong. I just think the writing is all over the wall and it doesn’t require glasses to read it. X does not want to play at Kansas and given the opportunity he now has at Kentucky, he is not going to play at Kansas! Get it out of your mind so that you won’t be discouraged when you hear it on the news.

Still, Stephenson would be a nice consolation prize. Wait, no he wouldn't. Even if Pastner kept one of the jucos and snagged Crazy Lance, Eric Bledsoe, AND Latavious Williams, it wouldn't feel the same. Xavier was already part of the fucking family.

Xavier Henry, brother to visit UK

Heralded wing prospect Xavier Henry and his brother C.J. plan to visit UK the weekend of April 25-26, the players’ father said on Wednesday.

Xavier (pronounced Za-vee-a) signed with Memphis. C.J. was a walk-on with the Tigers last season.

UK is the only school the brothers will visit, Carl Henry said. They have already seen the other two schools on their list, Kansas (their parents’ alma mater) and Memphis.
“If it was me, I don’t need to look (at UK), if I want to play for Coach Calipari,” the players’ father said. “They want to see the campus. They’ve heard a lot about it.”

Carl Henry sounded anxious to finish the recruiting process. When asked if the visit should be interpreted as UK as the leader, he said. “If it as me, definitely. My sons change their minds all the time.”

I'm pretty excited to see what EJ, Robinson, and Whitey bring to the team next year.

Bringing back Cole and Sherron was more important for this team then landing X or Lance. Personally, I think Lance suits up for us next year. If X really wanted to play for KU I think he would be here already. Lance wants to play for a team that gets plenty of national exposure and is going to good. He gets those with Kansas, not so much with St. Johns. Now that we have a scholarship open I can't imagine not getting one of them but crazier shit has happened.

<!-- end mod-article-title --> <!-- begin story body --> NEW YORK -- Xavier Henry (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=43687) thought he could rest easy this spring. When he signed a national letter of intent with Memphis in November, he washed his hands of the dreaded recruiting process.
This month he discovered that college basketball is "just another business."
Henry, the No. 3-rated senior prospect in the ESPNU 100, has reopened his recruiting process after a tumultuous high school season, which ended with Putnam City High (Oklahoma City) capturing Oklahoma's large-class (6A) state championship.
Henry entered his senior year as the top-ranked player on the ESPNU 100 but missed nearly three months after an automobile accident in October, "which I don't remember much about; it happened in a flash," he said.
Henry required facial surgery to insert two pins and eight screws below his right orbital bone (a socket of the skull in which the eye is situated).
Two weeks ago, his plans changed again when coach John Calipari left Memphis after accepting the Kentucky job.
"When Cal called I was in shock," Henry said, who will participate in Saturday's Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden (ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET). "My family would've relocated, at least for next season, to Memphis to be near my brother [C.J.] and myself. Suddenly everything was messed up."
Two pivotal reasons he chose Memphis were that his family has a deep-rooted relationship with Calipari -- he coached Henry's father, Carl, as an assistant at Kansas in the late 1980s -- and that his brother, C.J., was a walk-on for the Tigers.
Now Henry is back to square one. This time there will be no protracted decisions.
When he returns home Sunday, Henry will gather his thoughts, confer with his family and "decide within a week" between Kansas and Kentucky.
Memphis was quickly eliminated when first-year coach Josh Pastner was hired. "Josh recruited me hard to Memphis, but I'm going with [head coaching] experience," he said.
DeMarcus Cousins (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=43924), a talented 6-10 post from LeFlore (Mobile, Ala.), did the same after verbally committing to the Tigers during the season. He recently chose Kentucky.
Will Henry follow?
"I'll know soon," he said.
Here's what Henry had to say about his finalists.
Kansas: "It's only a four and a half hour drive from Oklahoma City, my brother originally committed there out of high school before signing a professional baseball contract, and I know the Kansas tradition through my mom and dad. When my dad received a DVD of their 2008 national championship season, I watched it 50 times; it gave me chills," he said.
Kentucky: "I don't know anything about the program's history, but I do know Calipari is the coach. Cal has a feel for building a program. He makes you already feel a part of the program and wants you to succeed. He'll tell you honestly if you are ready for the NBA."
That won't be for at least one season.
"Even if I could go straight to the NBA, I won't bypass college," Henry said. "I need to learn the game and get stronger. I'd like to go where the school could win a national championship, and have a chance to play with my brother."
Christopher Lawlor has covered high school sports for more than 20 years, most recently with USA Today, where he was the head preps writer responsible for national high school rankings in football, baseball, and boys' and girls' basketball.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that X says his whole family was going to relocate to Memphis? As a normal person with a normal job and a normal house, this seems like something that would be pretty difficult. I mean, would both parents be able to find jobs of equal or greater pay than their current ones? And what about their home? I suppose they could just be renting. Just seems odd to me that anyone would be so willing to relocate to a new city like that for just one year.

That is, unless Cal is working something for them (financially) under the table.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/04/16/henry-says-no-kentucky-visit-set-yet/

NEW YORK - Despite a report indicating that Xavier Henry would visit Kentucky April 25-26, Henry himself said no visit date had been finalized. “No, I haven’t picked a date,” the 6-foot-6 Henry said Thursday at Jordan Brand Classic practice. “When we get home [to Oklahoma] we’ll talk about everything. We’ll probably set a visit date for Kentucky and all that.”

A published report (http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/apr/16/henry-uk-visit-april-25-26/) had Carl Henry saying Xavier and C.J. would visit Kentucky the last weekend in April.

Xavier said he would like to visit Kentucky and said it could happen then.

“I don’t even know when we’re going to go,” he added. “I don’t even know if we’re going to go. But when we get home we’ll figure stuff out.”

Henry, the No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2009, also said he could still end up at Memphis even though he and his brother have secured their releases.

“It depends on if my brother can get out of his thing and go transfer and play his first year,” Xavier said. “If he can’t then I might still play with him at Memphis. I don’t know yet.”

C.J., a walk-on at Memphis, would need to transfer to either Kansas or Kentucky and then appeal the NCAA for a waiver to allow him to play immediately. Yet there’s no guarantee that will happen. Such waivers are only granted in extreme circumstances, such as when a family member is dying.

“It’ll take time,” Henry said. “I don’t know. It could be quick. It could take a long time. It’s just the NCAA, whatever they decide.”

He added: “I want to keep my family together. It’s really not playing with [C.J.], it’s keeping my family together. They [Memphis] already said they’d let him out.”

Henry said new Memphis coach Josh Pastner was still trying to sell him on staying at Memphis. “He just reminds me that everything wasn’t Coach Cal [John Calipari],” Henry said. “Memphis is still a great school. He can still run the program the same. He just tries to tell me everything’s going to be the same. Team’s going to be the same except for DeMarcus [Cousins] departed. And Nolan Dennis, I don’t know if he’s staying or going. And he’s trying to get those two JUCO kids to still go [Will Coleman and Darnell Dodson of Miami-Dade College]. He’s a positive guy so he likes to talk.”

Meantime, Pastner has taken a page out of the Bill Self book by also trying to join the Lance Stephenson Sweepstakes. As first reported here Wednesday (http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/04/15/memphis-has-interest-in-lance-famous/), Pastner tried to reach out to the Brooklyn star to gauge his interest on coming to Memphis. As of early Thursday, he had not spoken with Stephenson.

Stephenson and Xavier Henry appear to be engaged in a game of chicken to see which one will declare first. Stephenson is considering Kansas and St. John’s, while Henry is looking at Kansas, Kentucky and Memphis. “He was going to Kansas and then apparently backed off or something because he might think I’m going,” Henry said of Stephenson.

He added that he hasn’t discussed the situation with the 6-5 Stephenson.
“I haven’t talked to Lance,” he said. “I only say a few words to Lance. His decision doesn’t effect mine at all.”

In the meantime, Cousins is working Henry and point guard John Wall (http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/04/16/wall-not-thinking-nba-will-narrow-list-next-week/) on joining Calipari in Lexington.

“I basically threatened his life and I told him if he didn’t come we’re going to have some problems,” Cousins joked. “I need you to commit today. So he’s considering it.”

“DeMarcus is a master recruiter,” Henry said. “He always talks about it and he just wants me to come. He likes to put you on the spot to where you gotta answer [by saying], ‘You going to Kentucky, man?’”

At one point Cousins turned to Wall in the stands and said, “John, where you going? I call him almost every night. Ain’t that right, John?”
Wall and Henry try to ignore Cousins, but it isn’t easy.

At least Henry has a default position.

He’s waiting on C.J.

“I’m waiting on my brother,” he said with a smile. “I can’t say nothing about it.”

Said Cousins: “If Xavier does not come to Kentucky, we need some ‘Rest in Peace’ signs.”

Just reading this article about John Wall: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/luke_winn/04/16/wall/index.html

This is why Wall received a call from new Kentucky coach John Calipari the night before he officially chose to leave Memphis, just to tell Wall -- who had been one of the Tigers' prime recruiting targets -- what was on the verge of happening.

Didn't Calipari say to the media that day that he hadn't contacted any of the Memphis recruits and wanted them to stay in Memphis?

Oh, and Pastner hired former Kentucky assistant Glynn Cyprien (who's really close with Daniel Orton and was a key part of his signing with Kentucky). In response to this news, Kentucky fans displayed their incredible self-awareness:

If Orton asks for his release, Mitch and Cal need to say “Ok, but it has to be somewhere other than Memphis.”

Go to Memphis and run the same offense, because of an assistant coach? I don’t see that happening. I also think that UK would block that, because it would appear that Cyp tampered with a signed recruit.

http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/0...y-this-weekend/ (http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/04/20/henrys-to-visit-kentucky-this-weekend/)

Despite reports that Xavier and C.J. Henry will not visit Kentucky, the latest news is that the brothers will trip there this coming weekend.
“Now they’re going to visit Kentucky at the end of this week,” Carl Henry said early Monday afternoon. “My youngest son [Xavier] called me and said he wanted to go visit. It just happened thirty minutes ago.”

Carl had initially told reporters the boys would not visit and would announce Wednesday between Kansas, Kentucky and Memphis. Now that decision — and potentially Lance Stephenson’s as well — will be put off. Stephenson could end up at Kansas if the Henrys go to Kentucky or remain at Memphis; and he could go to St. John’s or Maryland if they pick Kansas.

“Both of them get out of school Friday,” Carl said. “They’re both going to go visit [Kentucky].”
Both Kentucky coach John Calipari and Kansas coach Bill Self flew to New York Saturday night to make their recruiting pitch to Xavier.
“I wasn’t there,” Carl said. “I was out of town myself. They just said it was the same recruiting stuff.”
Asked when the boys might decide, Carl said: “I couldn’t tell you, man. I”m so ready for it to be over with.”

Mr. Plow
04-20-2009, 12:11 PM
"They told me they want to get it over with and really don't need to make a visit to Kentucky," former KU player Carl Henry said. "They know the styles of play of both coaches and will make a decision without making any more visits. That's what they told me."

An hour or so later, we get...............

In all seriousness, Coleman is essentially a taller Joey Dorsey with more offensive potential and Robert Dozier's athleticism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iQmIhTxTNo&feature=player_embedded). He was a key to the class, and it's an unbelievable relief to keep him.

The season can not come soon enough.

KU will dominate next year.

As long as everyone stays healthy...

There you have it. It's across all independent affiliates for Memphis, KU, Kentucky, and then Zagsblog who isn't really affiliated with anyone but is well known for being right on the money. Sure the Henry's could wake up tomorrow and after taking a big long reflective zen like sh*t have a change of heart, but it really feels like this is going to stick.

It's Kansas........for the time being....

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">var userStatus='vote'; // if this poll is the one for which they have answered, show results if (typeof(pollsVoted)!="undefined") { for (var i = 0; i < pollsVoted.length; i++) { if (pollsVoted[i] == 9483636) { var userStatus = 'results'; break; } } } // has to have retry because hitbox code is defered. function hitBoxVote(m,p) { } var pollHeight = 0; if (pollHeight == 0) { pollHeight = Math.max(140 + (2 * 45) ); } var flashPollQuery='choices=2&questionId=439882&pollId=9483636&cUrl=&pgCode=null&categoryId=null&isNarrow=true&userStatus='+userStatus; var tag = new FSFlashTag("/id/8796869", 250, pollHeight); // movie path, last two arguments are width and height tag.setId('flashPoll'); tag.setFlashvars(flashPollQuery); tag.setWmode('transparent'); tag.setWmodeFF('transparent'); tag.write(document); </script> Henry, one of the top players in the senior class and a former Memphis signee , and his brother -- a former New York Yankees first-round pick who didn't play last season at Memphis due to injury -- have informed Calipari that they will be attending Kansas.
"It's done," said one source. "He and C.J. told everyone last night."
Both Kansas coach Bill Self and Kentucky coach John Calipari met with the duo in New York this past weekend while Xavier was in town for the Jordan Brand Classic.

Xavier Henry is a big-time prospect is ranked No. 6 in the nation by Scout.com and No. 3 by Rivals.com. He initially selected Memphis over Kansas -- where both of his parents went to school -- but was allowed out of his letter-of-intent after Calipari left for Kentucky.

It's a huge pickup for Bill Self and the Jayhawks, who now become the clear-cut No. 1 team in the nation with the return of Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich and just about everyone else of note from a team that went to the Sweet 16 this past season.

It's also a blow to Calipari, who could have had a Final Four caliber team in his first season in Lexington. The Wildcats are still trying to secure a commitment from the nation's top point guard, John Wall, and are waiting to see the fate of Patrick Patterson and Jodie Meeks -- both of which have declared for the NBA Draft, but have not hired an agent.

Top point guard recruit John Wall has told Kentucky coach John Calipari that he will sign with the Wildcats, according to multiple sources, ending a highly publicized courtship with the game-changing player.

Wall, ranked the No. 1 point guard, No. 5 overall, on the ESPNU 100, informed Miami coach Frank Haith Tuesday morning that he had committed to Kentucky. The reasoning, according to a source, was because he just wanted to play for Calipari.

Lots of talent, but very young. Nobody knows the "system" at UK, but really....how hard is it to teach:

Coach: "Ok. Player A, you drive to the basket. If you are open, shoot. If you aren't open, pass it to Player B."

Player A: "Ok coach."

Player B: "What happens if I'm not open then?"

Coach: "Pass it - or, if you CAN get open, shoot it."

More than likely, most of them will not be around beyond this year.
