My list thus far:

Harry Potter series - i'd like the kids who grew up reading them to have a take. The ones so far aren't very good.

I Am Legend - because it wasn't faithful to the book and can hardly be called an adaptation or share the title with the awful ending. I'd even want Smith to star again :P

So new adaptations of the books rather than remakes, right? That's what I mentioned in the other thread; we sometimes complain about the lack of orginality, yet those stories aren't new. What makes them original is how they are translated from paper to film or digital.

And with all movies, it's more of the way the story is told rather than the story itself - that's how you judge a movie, right? Well, the story is part as well, but it can't be a huge part of it.

I would look forward to a remake of The Grapes of Wrath. Not because the first was bad, but because it needs to be told and seen again, and I think color could really benefit the story.

Yes, I did pick two adaptations. But they would nonetheless be considered remakes.

I would like a big American studio production of Napoleon. Sergio Leone was working on it before he died.

12 Angry Men would be interesting. Especially if they added some modern twists to it.

They had a TV one recently with a lot of big names in it. It might still work, but most defenders today would probably protest if a Hispanic kid was tried by an all white middle aged male jury. Thankfully. But you could definitely do some things, which is why it's still one of the most popular plays on stage.

Of course, it can still be set in 1954 or around then. Which would you have it be?

Damn, that has a pretty good cast other than Danza.

Yes. Get Singer back on the project, and do the Dark Phoenix storyline properly.

And I'll throw out a second for The Final Countdown and The Black Hole (think they were mentioned somewhere).

And BTW, I Am Legend is the third movie based on the original book. I never saw the first one, which starred Vincent Price, but the second, Omega Man with Charlton Heston, was much better than the last one with Smith.

Ya, I think it was Omega Man. I need to see it, I loved the book but hated the movie with Smith.

This will be unpopular, but surely they could make a great remake of the Ten Commandments with today's technology.

I'm surprised I wasn't condemned for that suggestion. It's because Charlton Heston is a conservative, isn't it? ;)

Naah I like Heston. Especially in Ben-Hur. I just think it'd be cool to see the modern technology at work in the parting of the Red Sea and the staffs turning into serpents, and a new vision of the burning bush and the inscribing of the Ten Commandments. We could have Jim Caviezel as Moses.

How about the movie with Hamas' sister and Hacksaw Jim Dugan? The VHS quality just doesn't cut it in today's world.

Oh, and 1984.

This wouldn't be a remake, but rather than start a new thread...

I've always thought a GREAT concept for a movie, especially with today's CGI, would be "Hiroshima".

Have you seen the Donnie Darko follow up, Southland Tales? I'm one of the few people who actually liked it, but just judging from that film, a Richard Kelly helmed Dune wouldn't be any less esoteric than the David Lynch one.

Star Wars Episode 1, 2, and 3.

Directed by Kirshner or Tony Scott, or the guy who directed The Dark Knight....or me....pretty much anyone but Lucas.

Somre more to add to the list:

Logan's Run

The Running Man (with better effects and less cheesy dialogue)

Phantasm (the original was scary as hell, but maybe freshen it up a bit with some better acting/effects???)

King of New York (keep nearly everyone in same roles, but lose caruso and update the film stock/cinematography)

Highlander (loved the original......for remake, coax connery out of retirement for same role, but replace mccloud with an actor who can actually act their way out of a paper bag....and update the special effects).

I'm pretty sure they are remaking Logan's Run.

As for Highlander, Connery's gotta be pushing 80. Good luck getting him back. Perhaps Daniel Craig would do it. :D

It seems like that Logan's Run remake has been going on for quite a while. I think maybe they're having problems doing it or something.

Last I heard, they were going to reboot Superman again only - wait for it - darker. Ala Batman Begins.

And no Singer.
