View Full Version : Chiefs *Rumor* Chiefs In Serious Negotiations For Boldin

I was driving home for my lunch break and two local guys on a sports station here in Springfield (Jock 98.7) were talking about reports (they didnt say where they came from, or if they did I missed it) that we are in serious negotiations with Arizona for Anquan Boldin. Supposedly we have an offer on the table for one of next years 2nd's and a 4th, but Arizona is trying to get next years highest 2nd and our 3rd. Thats all I heard, so dont shoot the messenger.

I do think Boldin will be a chief. I just hope the price isn't too high.

Even if we had $35 in cap space, there's ways to structure deals to fit them under the cap.

Money is NEVER an issue. Or I should say, the CAP is never an issue. It's all about how big of a check the owner wants to write.

Don't care......I didn't see any teams beating down the Cardinals door looking to trade with him. They pretty much just need to accept the best offer out there right now. A 2nd and a 4th isn't bad for a WR that wants a fat contract and wants out. Shit....we'll give them Jeff Webb as part of the deal.

Demand has gone down after this weekend, Giants + Eagles both improved their receiving core and they've been rumored to be most interested in him.

I believe we do have an offer on the table, but it must be for lower than Arizona thinks he's worth...

Did they get a receiver in the draft?

If Pioli thinks he will fit in here and the coach vouches for him, yes, Hunt will spend the money. He should get market value. He's in his prime and one of the top 5 recievers in the game.

I think we're having post-draft depression.

Many of us, myself included, wanted no part of Boldin because he isn't an ideal complement to Bowe. Now...fuck it. Let's try to get Cassel some fucking help, especially with Gonzo gone.

The latter is what really changes things for me. No Gonzo makes Boldin far more appealing.

“We kept reiterating to the few teams that called that our position was to listen,” Graves said. “We were not ever taking a proactive move with respect to a trade, but we were certainly willing to listen and in just about all cases, we didn’t get a response back.”

Whisenhunt wasn’t sure why Boldin didn’t draw more interest.

“I think some of (the calls) were because there were reports out there we had dropped our demands and people were trying to verify that was the case and we said that was not the case,” Whisenhunt said. “There’s been so much publicity about what he’s worth. … I can’t speculate as to whether it was (contract demands) or what it was. Like I’ve said, I’ve never changed my thoughts about Anquan and what he means to our team and what type of football player he is.”

As long as Niswanger and McIntosh are starters on this OL, it won't matter if we add Boldin, Braylon Edwards, or Jerry Rice in his prime.

Unless the playbook is full of bubble screens...

We have a QB that is known for holding the ball too long, playing behind a superstar LT, 2 30-something guards on the decline and 2 guys that make Jordan Black look like Jonathan Ogden.

Don't know what to say, honestly.

I'm going to work under the premise that Pioli isn't a complete fucking moron, yet we haven't done anything to upgrade our line through the draft, a draft that was supposedly deep in OL talent.

On the surface, it doesn't make any sense...

That's not what local radio here in Phoenix reports.
Mike Jureckin reports AZ will not trade Q for a 2nd round pick, they are focused on having Q on the field with Fitz so Kurt has his 3 WR weapons again for one more SB run before Kurt hangs them up. He says that rumors AZ has dropped their demands to a 2nd rounder are false.

It will take a very strong offer for AZ to move Q along with an agreement by the new team to pay Q $9-10 million/year on a long term deal.

I agree with the "so what" now.

I don't think that Bowe, Boldin, and Gonzo would have made much sense at all, though. With Bowe and Gonzo, the need was someone to stretch the field to allow for things to be open underneath.

Obviously all moot now. Bring on Boldin.

If they were going to move him, it would have been yesterday. Maybe I'm wrong, it's just a hunch.

I do think they were looking for versatility and depth along the DL, they want to run a scheme that confuses the opponent and bring pressure from hard-to-locate/anticipate spots.

You have a point IMHO.

Q is a top WR who plays tough and would make any WR corps better.
OTOH he had Fitz at the other WR slot taking pressure off him and Kurt "HOF" Warner throwing to him in an offense built around the pass.
The local insider here says Q is a great #2 WR asking for #1 $.

Hopefully you're joking. Boldin is a top 10 wr in the nfl and maybe top 5. He is only 28 so he has atleast 4 or 5 years in the tank so age is not a factor. he will take the heat off of bowe and spread the field more thank gonzo could have.

Actually, I think the stuff between him & Haley on the sidelines works in his favor - it shows football is important to him and Pioli likes those kind of guys

Haley + Kurt + Boldin have laughed at the media hype and said something along these lines "that was nothing, it happens all the time with us, it's because we're all very passionate and want to win, you should see some of our practices"

Then we could have fired Haley and hired Mangina, relocated to Cleveland, and changed our name to the Browns.

These radio rumors are circular. Some "mini-Pioli" posts an idea on a board like this. A bunch of chatter ensues, and then a couple of small-town radio hacks who were too busy taking Facebook quizzes to actually prepare a show run to a board like this for ideas and throw out unsubstantiated rumors. People on boards like this post new headlines about rumors they hear on the radio and the chatter ensues. A few calls for a link are drowned out by the massive tsunami of speculation and avatars featuring B and B, or shots of Haley dressing down Boldin but now wearing Chiefs gear.

It's entertaining....if it wasn't so predictable.

Of course his numbers went down. If you're a team's top guy, their #1 option, and you get bumped to the #2 option, you're not going to get as many passes your way. But Fitz drew coverage and allowed Boldin to make plays. I think if he comes here he sees more coverage. mmmk?

As long as Niswanger and McIntosh are starters on this OL, it won't matter if we add Boldin, Braylon Edwards, or Jerry Rice in his prime.

Unless the playbook is full of bubble screens...

We have a QB that is known for holding the ball too long, playing behind a superstar LT, 2 30-something guards on the decline and 2 guys that make Jordan Black look like Jonathan Ogden.

Which saddens me to no end, especially considering that we could have locked up an awesome offensive line this weekend for at least the next 6 years...

I meant the 3rd - but if you think that Jackson is going to play to the level of Seymour, then prepare to be sorely disappointed.

I think you're right that the Seymour comparison might be overdone. I really like Pioli's comparison to Russell Maryland. He was a guy who never made pro bowls in Dallas, but was vital to their defense. If he ends up being Maryland, that's a very good thing.

And I think people are wrong when they say that he has to be a pro bowler to justify taking him at #3. That's incorrect. He has to merely be better than the other guys who were supposedly at the top of the board. And that's Aaron Curry and BJ Raji. On a positional value scale, I'd say Raji > Jackson > Curry. If Raji ends up solid, Jackson will need to be terrific to say Jackson got better value. And if Jackson ends up solid, Curry will have to be a pro bowler to say Curry got better value. I think there's a very good chance that when you factor in positional value, Jackson will end up as the best of the 3 picks.

Now as for Sanchez, justifying that pick will be based on whether Jackson plus Cassel > Sanchez plus an early second round pick. I like Cassel and believe that it will in the end turn out to be a wash.

yep, What did gruden ever build?

He won a Super Bowl with the team Dungy built then ruined it, and Oakland couldn't make one until Gurden left.

What would not be long-term about acquiring a 28 year old receiver in his prime?

The only argument against Boldin is his ability to stay on the field. Making it about talent makes you look silly. He'd drastically improve our passing game.

I just saw this, please show me where I "made it about talent"

What's not long-term is that he's not going to be as good as he was last year for the next 5 years. And even if he is, by the time we should be really hitting our stride he'll be retiring or an overpriced possession WR. You're right, unlike Gonzo for example, Boldin has had a lot of injuries. That doesn't bode well for 5 years down the road, I don't see him as a TG who will have a super long impact career.

I don't see this happening at all. After Boldin yelled at Haley on the sidelines I doubt Haley would want to deal with him again.

He also thinks Tim Tebow is going to revolutionize the NFL. We'll see

Gruden's kind of a moron, though.

Hey, I'm just posting what he said. I didn't say if I agreed or disagreed. I just thought it was noteworthy that a Super Bowl coach disagreed with those who believe that Jackson will be Seymour.

Why should we give a shit what he says?

I don't even know why your stupid ass even bothers to post because apparently, NO ONE has a valid opinion of ANYTHING.

I saw the interview, Gruden basically said there is only 1 Richard Seymour and its not right to compare Jackson to him.

Gruden is also not known for his defensive coaching. That would be like Lovie Smith giving analysis on QB"s.

IIRC, those comments were attributed to Howie Long, who sent them via text message.

I'd say that Howie Long knows a bit about defense.

Yes, it was Long now that you mention it. I stand corrected. Still don't think its a huge knock on Jackson.

It's like anything else, they start comparing every player to somebody else. Dorsey was the next Warren Sapp.

It's all crazy. Dorsey was universally (by 95% of the experts and media talking heads) thought of as the best defensive player and possibly the best player period in last years draft. After his rookie season 75% of the brain trust here say he is bust.

They compare Jackson to Richard Seymour and now without playing a snap he's as big a wasted pick as Hali.

Gruden said there is NO WAY this kid is Richard Seymour.

He may become a "percentage" of Seymour, but there's no way he's equal to him.

8-8!

If you're going to post this, at least you could get it somewhat accurate.

What was actually said was that Howie Long talked to Gruden on Saturday night and said that there aren't very many Seymour or Warrens around so it may not be fair to make those kind of comparisons. It in no way was an indication of Jackson's talent. The same thing could have been said for numerous comparisons from comparing Sanchez to Aikman among others.

I would guess based on fans expectations because of these stupid comparisons is why Long said that. Especially after his son, Chris, was compared to Howie all last offseason and didn't measure up this year.

But, hey, keep twisting it to make it sound like Gruden said he sucks.

I think we need to make this trade. Even if you didn't like how Pioli/Haley selected in the draft, the fact is we did get a burner. Now we don't know yet if he will be even a starter, but if so he can stretch the field for us. And Bowe and Boldin, tell me when we've had 2 wr on that level recently. Im hopin they get it done, if not I'm gonna have to make some kool-aid and pray they get someone else out there with Bowe. Maybe they are that confident in our other wr's?

RINGLEADER
04-28-2009, 11:53 AM
Bowe and Boldin would be a great combination and we need someone to step in to replace Tony's production. I'd trade one of our 2's next year, I might even trade both our 2's...but no way I'd give them a 1st (which will probably be in the top ten).
