Can I use one of these for a boot drive/main drive?

It's an immediate need at work and I can only find these, nobody can get me an internal drive "today"

thanks in advance

Depends on your MOBO, but there should be a BIOS setting.

Don't set it to 'removable' as that's a floppy drive. If there's a boot from USB, that's your best bet. If not, set it to boot from HD first, then go to the HD order menu and select, bootable add-in card or something to that effect.

Like I said, I can't get more specific without knowing your particular MOBO/BIOS

Thanks, it's my boss's pc and it's archaic, the BIOS only allows the "auto" option...I wonder would that work?

If that's indeed the case, your best chance would be to disconnect all other HD's first, particularly the primary IDE [I'm assuming archiac=not SATA].

Does the external have outputs other than USB?

oh yea just for future reference. XP doesn't allow for boot from USB, I believe vista+ does. Linux/mac all allow it.
