I'm sitting here listening to a little masterpiece by team Dio, Iommi, Ward, and Butler and it got me to thinking.

What a year 1980 was.

Black Sabbath released "Heaven and Hell".
Motorhead released "Ace of Spades".
AC/DC released "Back in Black".
Ozzy released "Blizzard of Oz".
Iron Maiden released their self-titled debut.

Not to mention, I'm pretty sure the Scorpions had a big album come out in 1980.

Good call, 1966-1967 was a period we'll probably never see again.

In 1966 of the top of my head, The Pink Floyd debuted with "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention debuted with "Freak Out!"

The Beatles released "Revolver".

And I'm pretty sure "Pet Sounds" and the first Dead album came on in 66 too.

Hey, I thought they were great.

I assume we're about the same age, too.

I saw Loverboy when they opened for Kansas in about '81/'82. It was Kansas' last concert with the original members.

Loverboy was really good, but they overdid the rock star poses on stage.

Kansas was awesome. I'll never forget Steve Walsh doing handstands on his keyboards and a great laser light show. Hey, it was the '80s and that's what rock bands did.

Oh, and the concert was held in the Mecca of the Universe, Allen Fieldhouse. :p

I saw Kansas (hate the state, love the group :) ) and REO together in Merrillville, IN about 20 years ago. The music was solid, but Walsh's voice was pretty ragged that night. He may have just been having a bad night, but it was definitely dissapointing. REO was much better.

I don't know. It's like Journey without Steve Perry.

Journey without Steve Perry is still Journey.

Beside everybody knows Neil was the band. :D

Would you believe I have an 8-track of Slowhand in a drawer in my computer room? Great, Great album. The first 8-track I ever bought. It's followed me around for years. It won't go away.

I can safely say that The Core would make a top 10 list of my fav songs ever that song is amazing.

Yeah, forgot about that one. CSNY also had 4 Way Street in '71 IIRC and there are a couple others I can't think of off hand.

First thing that came to mind when I read the thread title.

I was going to mention that one, but it's certainly not CSNY's best album.

I'm old, and old school. '73 wasn't too bad either.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Led Zepplin - Houses of the Holy
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced leh-nerd....

Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power
Zappa - Overnite Sensation
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
ZZ Top - Tres Hombres

Yeah '73 was pretty damn good too.

'81 was pretty good.

Hi Infidelity by REO
Escape - Journey
Foreigner 4
For Those About To Rock - AC/DC
Paradise Theather - Styx

Just my opinion but all 5 of those albums were by bands who had definitely seen better years musically.

For as many songs as are on that double album I can't think of a one I don't like.I'm especially fond of All The Young Girls Love Alice,Roy Rogers,Sweet Painted Lady and Dirty Little Girl.

Which is a classic.

Agreed.

I saw CSN play at the KS Coliseum about 6-7 years ago. At some point during the show David Crosby left the stage to take oxygen. It was pretty sad. And we almost got arrested for smoking this hog leg out in the parking lot before the concert. All in all not a good show by any means.

Nothing comes close to the 66-68 era that has been talked about. The Beatles at their peak. The Stones at their peak. The Doors. The Who. Bob Dylan. Hendrix.

My favorite was in 1991 when all of the Seattle bands officially killed off all those crappy big hair bands from the 80's.

Soundgarden(Badmotorfinger)
Pearl Jam(Ten)
Alice in Chains toured with Slayer, Anthrax and Megalame in 91 promoting their Facelift album on the Clash of the Titans tour.
Temple of the Dog
Nirvana(Nevermind)

And looking back its hard to wrap the mind around the idea that The Beatles gave us within a 24 month period "Rubber Soul", "Revolver" and Sgt Pepper.

Indeed, that WAS a good year. My 5 from 1980 would have been close:

Back In Black - AC-DC
British Steel - Judas Priest
Blizzard of Oz - Ozzy
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Animal Magnetism - Scorpions
