ATLANTA (AP) - It's been two months since 2-year-old Cori pulled the gold stud from her left earlobe, and the piercing is threatening to close as her mother, Maggie Anderson, hunts for a replacement.

It's not that the earring was all that rare—but finding the right store has become a quest of Quixotic proportions.

Maggie and John Anderson of Chicago vowed four months ago that for one year, they would try to patronize only black-owned businesses. The "Empowerment Experiment" is the reason John had to suffer for hours with a stomach ache and Maggie no longer gets that brand-name lather when she washes her hair. A grocery trip is a 14-mile odyssey.

My initial reaction to reading this was to assume some sort of "reverse racism", but I wound up being pretty intrigued and actually support their cause. Sometimes I surprise myself.

I read that as the kid pulled the earring out of her mothers ear.

But after reading it again i'd have to agree. :)

Maggie Anderson said. "It's like, my people have been here 400 years and we don't even have a Walgreens to show for it."

Do they sell afro-sheen at Walgreens?

No problem. It depends mostly on the area in which the store is located of course. In a more heavily African-American area the scope of products such as Afro-Sheen is larger then more white communities. Whereas a lot of the stores have a "base" set which they carry they do try to cater to the area in which they're in.

The Walgreen's which I worked at in Seattle had a large Asian community so we had an aisle specifically oriented towards what an Asian person may be looking for.

I could fucking care less about this. I'm going to continue buying what's closest and enjoying the extra time I save on Chiefsplanet.

There's a reason it's called Coca Cola and not Cracka Cola.

Oooh. That was a rare double-imbedded naturally opposing pun. That's a once in a lifetime pun.

I'm going to buy exclusively from white businesses. It shouldn't be too hard.

I'll tell my black friends what I'm doing and see if they support my cause.
