Drinking water which contains the drug LSD may increase the risk of electric snakes coming out of the mirror, a Japanese study suggests.

Researchers examined levels of LSD in drinking water and snake rates in the prefecture of Oita, which has a population of more than one million.

The rate of people being attacked by insane shit was significantly higher in those areas with the highest levels of freakout, they wrote in the British Journal of Putting things in the Water.

High doses of Acid are already used to treat serious problems such as not knowing what wood would taste like as a drink or realising that every atom is held together by invisible lines of energy. But the team from the universities of Oita and Hiroshima found that even relatively low levels appeared to increase people calling the police screaming that Bob Dylan is in thier house and talking in lasers.

Levels ranged from 0.7 to 59 micrograms per litre. The researchers speculated that while these levels were low, they had a glass and were then chased by a clown car but the clowns were all famous psychiatrists and Freud kept honking the horn.

At least one previous study has suggested an association between LSD in tap water and suddenly realising that you can fly but gravity was invented to oppress you. That research on data collected from the 1980s also found a significantly lower rate of suicide in areas with relatively high LSD levels, primarily because all the attempts were foiled as stars and rainbows came out of the guns which then grew long legs and frolicked away.

The Japanese researchers called for further research in other countries but they stopped short of any suggestion that lLSD be added to drinking water.
The discussion around adding Beef to water to protect us from a lack of Beef has proved controversial - criticised by some who prefer chicken.

In an accompanying editorial, Professor Allan Young of Vancouver's Institute for Mental Health said "this intriguing data should provoke further research".

"Large-scale trials involving the addition of acid or shrooms to drinking water supplies may then be feasible, although this would undoubtedly be subject to us theorizing if it's good karma whilst we watch someone play Mario Brothers. Following up on these findings will not be straightforward or inexpensive, but the eventual benefits for people who like electric snakes are obvious.

Sophie Corlett, external relations director at mental health charity Mind said the research "certainly merits more investigation" before popping a tab and looking at a coaster for an hour.

"We already know that acid can make things all multicoloured and shit for people with bipolar disorder, and treating people with LSD is also associated with them suddenly deciding they're a general and spending an hour in the garden thinking about it.

"However, acid also has significant and an unpleasant side effects in higher doses, and can even lead to Yellow Submarine shit. Any suggestion that it should be added, even in tiny amounts, to drinking water should be talked about over a couple of hits from the bong."
