I'd be happy if Meche got 6 innings, 3 runs at this point. He's been far from an ace the few starts.

If Hillman has Jacobs in the 4 hole tonight, I'll curse him more than usual.

His numbers against lefties have to be horrible. I can't believe Hilman batted him cleanup against them last week. He also refuses to PH a righty when the other team brings in a left to face them and our lefty never comes though in the clutch, nor should they have to.

Great Expectations

Teahen might be the worst clutch hitter in MLB.

Jacobs this season:

Against RHP: .273/.356/.649

Against LHP: .244/.306/.289

.289 slugging percentage? Are you fucking kidding me?

There should be two hard and fast rules for Jacobs from a manager's perspective: 1. He never plays in the field. 2. He's never in the lineup against a LHP.

Looking at the standings as of today (before the first pitch)
If the Royals were 20-18 in other other divisions, they would be:
in 5th place in the NL East
in 4th place in the AL East
in 3rd place in the NL East
in 2nd place in the AL West
in 2nd place in the NL West

The AL East is looking quite impressive

Mr. Krab
05-19-2009, 06:39 PM
1st base looks set with Butler
2nd base looks set with Callaspo
shortstop looks set in the short-term with Bloomy
3rd base is ok with Teahen until Moose is ready
catcher is meh but workable
left field is meh with DDJ
center is good short-term with Coco
Guillen is way overpaid and we should still probably trade him
DH is shaky with Jacobs and we should probably trade him if we can too
Starting pitching is looking strong, especially if Hoch pulls his head out
relief is cut and paste every year, as long as Soria is ok we're set.

Our bats are still weak but we have room to breath now.

You don't bunt a guy over to 3rd if it's gonna give you the 2nd out. A base hit is needed to score them from 3rd then. That same base hit would probably score him from 2nd. You take the 2 shots at getting a base hit. imo.

WilliamTheIrish
05-19-2009, 07:08 PM
That was ridiculous. It must be difficult comprehending this defense of you're a pitcher.

Let's see. If I induce a two out pop up to short RCF, I can count on my RF waiting for my CF to put in max effort, who will however, miss the catch. My RF, will allow the ball to get past him by just a few steps, whereby the runner at 1st, who will take off with pitch, will round 3rd as my RF, throws the ball to the cutoff man at 2b, who seems to not understand English, or nobody tells him to throw home, so when he finally realizes that the runner isn't breaking stride, throws too late to the plate.

Our pitching staff probably all have daily appointments with Greinke's shrink.

I'll sum it up by paraphrasing Bob Davis' radio call:

“Line down the right field line, it is…FAIR! Let’s see if he can get to second, the throw is gonna be close….and he is….out by a wide margin.”

Callaspo ran the bases as poorly as Bob Davis follows the game.

You would've thought Hillman would pull Banny after seeing he had no control on his pitches, which is EXACTLY what got him in trouble last time.
Or after he walked the first batter.
Or after the second batter EASILY hit it right down the middle, where he was aiming.

That would make too much sense.

So why pull him after the inevitable two-run homer? Games over, I guess, huh Hillman??

Yep, he obviously should have pulled one of our best pitchers after 80-something pitches because he didnt throw well to 2 consecutive hitters. Thats something that anybody would have easily seen without the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

Clearly, I have a history of hating on Hillman. Glad you searched my post history.

Actually, if you know anything about me, you'd know I'm a huge managerial apologist. But if he had any sense-- and, for that matter, if you did-- he'd know that Banny starts losing control on his pitches around 80, and because of his style, that usually means the sixth inning.

But go ahead and chalk it up to 20/20 hindsight. Other team's managers dont.

The bulk of his earned runs fall between 70-100-- and, yes, that's to be expected from pitchers. But it's the MANAGER'S JOB, especially in a one-run game, to know when to bring in his bullpen.
