I've never been to DC but can't believe there's not some kind of WWI monument there.

My Grandpa was in that war. I have three foot wide picture of his Company posing during boot camp in 1917. This thread made me go look at it.

Looking closely at it I wouldn't want to mess with any of those guys in the picture. Some of them look like mean SOB's.

Great thread, thanks for remembering.

My great grandpa Mathias was a doughboy! He's been dead for a while though. But we also have a nice picture of him in uniform.

I bet there are just several more in Europe, when they had real young kids signing up. In 1918, you might be 14 years old and fighting. That would be 105 years old now.

The memorial discussed on that site won't be completed until 2017(!)

Awesome. I hope you have it hanging on the wall. There was a generation that went through WWI and the depression.

You know it's funny...most people don't know(even life long Kansas Citians) that the WWI National Memorial is in Kansas City. It is right across the street from Union Station at the Liberty Memorial.

Currently, that's a DC memorial (memorializing DC residents in the war), but not a national one. It looks like there's a push to make it national though.
