Going out of town soon and am debating whether to book the room now for day one or just drive as far as I am capable and find a hotel when I get to one.

What are the odds of there being a room available at 9pm on a Saturday night anywhere from St. Louis to Effingham, IL along I-70?

I always drive as far as I can and then find myself 60 miles from the nearest motel when I can't go any farther.

I have to work Friday night and then leave Saturday afternoon when I wake up. If I get enough sleep, I believe I can make it to Effingham. However, if my sleep does not go well, St. Louis would be the prime stop.

I want to make it to Effingham though. It's just me and my son so I have no second driver to give me a break though. Too bad I can't just predict the future damnit.:banghead:

I know this nice little motel in East St. Louis. It is great for families arriving after dark. :(

You shouldn't have any issues finding a place - at least I wouldn't think you would.

I never make a reservation....just drive until I find a good place to stop. Just stop before you get too tired.

Once you get out of metro St. Louis, there aren't too many places to stop until effingham.

Not too many, but now that I think about it, there is a motel in pocahontis, Illinois that is located next to the best roadside breakfast joint ever, the pohwatan (sp?). I heartily recommend it.
