I used to think Teahen was a good baserunner, but now I think he's merely aggressive. Earlier in the year he was taking extra bases on iffy plays, but when it works your a good baserunner. Now its evening out. I dont remember him making a bad play by being too timid on the bases.

Well, that was the plan for him to do that and then Hillman fell back into the splitting of time between him and Buck because Buck had a few good games. I'll admit you have to plate the hot bat but Hillman kept splitting time even when Buck went ice cold.

Report from Pittsburgh: a great game to watch if you are a Royals fan. They turned back the clock, unplugged all the gadgets, got rid of the gimmicks, eliminated the 7th inning stretch, and had no music. Just the announcer and the scoreboard. It was awesome!

Just like in 1909, the Pirates took the series. Either Willis or Gallaraga (sp.) will probably not be in the Detroit order anymore. The former went 3 2/3 with 6 ER on 6 hits and 8BB. He could not hit the strike zone. I think he walked the pitcher twice. The latter went 2 innings with 4 ER last night. Right now, Detroit cannot compete with the back two pitchers in their rotation, and from what my Tiger-fan friends tell me, there are no more starter arms around. They will hang around because the top 3 in their order are so good, but you can't win them all (not even Grienke can do that).

To make matters worse for them, their bats have gone cold. Magglio Ordonez was out of the order today, and there is talk that the Tigers might cut him to keep from paying his contract next year (something about playing half the season forcing the team to pick up the option on his contract). They can still hit when hot, but they are not the fearful bats that struck the Royals last month.

The bottom line: we can still get back into this thing!

Great day for Banny. We keep getting decent starts throughout the order, and the bats are starting to warm up again.

Let's Go Royals!

If Bannister and Hochever can pitch to get groundballs... and actually start winning some games... our pitching rotation would be sick.

If Bannister and Hochever can pitch to get groundballs... and actually start winning some games... our pitching rotation would be sick.

Well, that's how they started off this year. Well Davies anyway. Bannister really has only had 2 bad games. And for a #5 guy you can't complain about that. We need the defense to stop the errors every fucking game and we need the bats to get back to where they were. This series and even really somewhat in the Cleveland series we finally started doing better at the plate. Guys have to be aware of the situation and Hillman has to be aware as well. I still think running Jacobs out there every day in the #4 spot is absolutley stupid. Especially against a LHP. Butler has been coming throughn in the #3 spot...David has been doing better at the leadoff spot and Olivo has probably shown the biggest improvment since he has been getting more playing time.

Hillman has to recognize what is working. Even though the Reds are not that great of a team this was a good starting point to putting some meaning back into the season. Now the team has to quit fucking around. And that includes Meche and his excessivley early high pitch counts. Although I find it ironic pitchers who have normally had Buck behind the plate have done better with Olivo. Coincidence? Maybe.

It is not coincidence at all. A cannot remember who mentioned it a month ago, but the claim was that Buck does not call a good inside game. If you can't jam a hitter, you are going to be in trouble as a pitcher. His bat might keep him in the lineup, but his game calling is going to have a drastic effect on our pitching quality.

Miggy, keep hitting those HRs! We need you!

I for one brought that up but it was brought up on Petro to begin with. I know Meche pitched one of his best games his last outing and Olivo was behing the plate. I think the last time Meche had Olivo behind the plate was the season opener and that also was one of his best games.
