Of course now that Ibanez is blowing up everyone is talking about him like he's some kind of hero. It's one of those arguments that's like "eh, whatever". And he is a great player, but he didn't become a star until he went to Philly's bandbox park and got to bat in the same lineup as Ryan Howard. Putting him in there at 37 years old in our park with Jose Guillen backing him up isn't quite the same thing.

He's still not exactly a star. But the bigger point is that if we had re-signed him, Guillen and his ridiculous contract wouldn't be here. Perhaps that money would have allowed us to ink a Hudson or someone else of substance.

Or maybe Moore would have found Farnsworth II, and it wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

Torre never would have come here.

Frank White wanted the job and he deserved it for a few reasons.

1) he puts the time in with the players both in the off-season and regualr season
2) he has coaching experience in the ML
3) he coached a lot of our farm team which means he understands the players coming up
4) he actually played the fucking game and was damn good at it, ulike someone else named Trey. That goes a long way with carrying a clubhouse, especially during a losing streak. They can look to him and say "Coach, what did you do when....."

Easy, look back about a page or so to one of my earlier posts. The Royals have done it time and again. Hillman didn't make the ASG because of any on-field accomplishments.
