Source: Favre Will Be At Vikings' Training Camp

http://llnw.image.cbslocal.com/30/2007/10/16/75x56/MarkRosen.jpg Reporting Mark Rosen (http://wcco.com/bios/mark.rosen.anchor.9.313448.html)(WCCO)

Barring some unforeseen major physical setback, Brett Favre will be at training camp in Mankato when they open up the end of July, a source has told WCCO's Mark Rosen.

That source said that Favre and the Vikings have indeed come to a contractual agreement, with heavy incentives. The Vikings equipment manager has already ordered number 4 purple jerseys with his name on it.

However, on Sunday, Favre's longtime agent, Bus Cooke denied a report that was out there that Favre and the Vikings had come to an agreement.

What isn't known is when this will be officially announced. Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress is in Alaska fishing this week with his good friend, Eagles head coach, Andy Reid.

ProFootballTalk.com speculated the announcement will come Fourth of July weekend, when a lot of media folks are on vacation to minimize the circus atmosphere.

John David Booty is currently wearing number 4, but not for long. Rosen said he believes the Vikings will keep Booty. The logical man to try and move would be Tavaris Jackson with Sage Rosenfels backing Favre up and ready to take over if Favre can't get the job done.

Right, because he's done so well the last 2 years. Those near 40 interceptions the last 2 years are the receivers fault.

He was playing injured at the end of the year. He had surgery.

The Vikings are strong everywhere else. I think they're the most complete team in the league with Favre.

Favre had two touchdowns and nine picks in the last five weeks.

Before that he had 20.

It was the injury.

He was the worst QB in the league those last 5 weeks of the season and almost single-handily cost the Jets a playoff spot. Maybe it was just the arm injury, but if you look at Favre's history the last few years he always falls apart at the end of seasons. He's old and can't play in the cold anymore.

Even before the injury, if you take out the anomaly that was the Cards game, he was basically a game manager who checked down a lot. If he can do that, he can be valuable to the Vikes, but he's still a QB who can't be trusted in the playoffs.

Did any of you SEE him at the end of last year? He didn't just look terrible, he looked terrible the way an old man who should have retired already would. He was THE reason the Jets didn't make the playoffs. This is going to blow up in their faces.

His last pass this year will be an interception like it seems like it is almost every other year, and we'll get to go through this favre stroke-my-ego dance all offseason, that is the worst part

His arm isn't what it was. He already made tons of mistakes back when he had the arm to try to squeeze the ball into the places he does. It doesn't work anymore. He's old. He needs to hang it up.

Vikings will win it all.

Vikings might not even win their division. Bears have at least a semi-legitimate quarterback now, and the Packers will be much improved now that Aaron Rodgers has some experience behind him.

Just as in the last two years, Favre will get his team just far enough to break its fans' hearts.

Brett Favre has been the most overrated player in the NFL for at least five or six years now. I think I'd rather have a mediocre game manager like Kerry Collins over a player like Favre, who'll put up big numbers then self-destruct.

Seriously, do you guys follow any other team than the Chiefs?

Aaron Rodgers had more than 4,000 yards passing last season with 28 TD's against 13 INT's. Aaron Rodgers was NOT the reason the Packers had a losing record last year. It was all on the defense.

I'm trying to think how pissed I'd be if I was a Packers fan at this guy. And remembering how pissed I was/still am at Bronco Neil, and what Favre is doing is about ten times worse than what Bronco Neil did, I can't even wrap my mind around it.

And two years ago I had a lot less gray hair, and a lot less need of Viagra. Two years in a guy's life is enormous; two years in a football player's life--especially a football player in his 30s--is gigantic. He's coming off a serious injury, going to have to learn a whole new offense with a whole new set of teammates, and will be turning 40 in early October.

As my grandmother said when my uncle was born... "This is gonna get ugly."

But he can dump off to Peterson 15 times a game and get an eay 200 yards. Plus the D should give him lots of chances to score.

Yeah, but that won't help his 40-year-old body when he takes a hit.

And Favre's problem is that he usually makes a bonehead move when you can least afford it, like heaving a ball up for grabs.

It sucks, 'cause I like Minnesota the best out of that division, so I hope they win. But if they win, he wins, which blows 'cause I hate him.

I guess I'll root for the whole division to tie in every game. :)

Good point, Mr. DaneMcCloud ... and probably correct. If, that is, Favre actually allows the RB to carry the rock in key situations. Favre strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate to overrule a running call coming in from the sidelines because he'd rather keep the game in his hands and fling it.

I like quarterbacks just as much as the next peep.

As a quarterback, Favre holds a lot of NFL records. One of which just happens to be; "Most Interceptions Of Footballs That Never Should Have Been Thrown To Begin With, You Total Dumbass!". And, that's the problem I have with the guy ... always has been. He seems to operate under the maxim that, "When in doubt, fling it." That strikes me as selfish and makes him a selfish quarterback. And, as we all know, selfish quarterbacks are egg-suckers. Snake egg suckers. The leathery kind.

And their defense had nothing to do with that?

Aaron Rodgers exceeded everybody's expectations last year. He certainly did better than Favre with his respective team.

Favre: 22 TD - 22 INT - 3,472 yds - 81.0 PR

Rodgers: 24 TD - 13 INT - 4,038 yds - 93.8 PR (not to mention rushing stats)

Yes, Favre was learning a new offense, but Green Bay did the right thing.
