And the comments my dad made with my driving learneds permit would still pertain...
"slow the fuck down, you're going to fast!"
"quit jerking it all over the place!"
"quit worrying about how cool you look or what's on the radio!"
And finally
"move over, I'm taking over!"

I was going to sat 21, but I like that idea better. How about a graduated scale?

18: you may kiss, touch boobies, and give or receive hand stimulus but are not allowed to facialize. Limited to one person at a session.

19: you may now include oral but no facializing or swallowing, still limited to one person at a session.

20: you are now allowed full-blown (pardon the pun) oral with any results, and may now have two people per session.

21: you may now include anal and vaginal penetration, and may have unlimited people at once.

50: you are forced into early retirement, except for being allowed to service Raider and Bronco fans. :)

The same as the age of consent for a given state.

This. But the age of consent is too low most cases.

If prostitution was legal, then there would be a lot more collected in taxes. I wonder how you would keep track of that? Clock in an out at the hotel room door?

Maybe a Value Added Tax on a 'per stroke' basis?

I think it should not be age-specific, but rather be contingent on passing a proficiency exam, kind of like getting a GED or getting a driver's license. Offering sex for pay is a privilege, not a right!

If they were legal they shouldn't need a pimp right ? Or who would protect them on the job ? How high would health insurance rates be ?

18 to be a customer, 25 (or 21) to be a provider. Yep, there's a double standard but protects from claims that prostitutes (namely girls) are entering the profession for the "wrong" reasons.

They can get the same stuff from just having sex. If it's regulated, you would have the girls using protection so that would cut down on those types of risks.

I just feel like the outcry against young folk selling "themselves" at such a young age would be too much. Similar to the disparity in drinking age. What is right about making someone eligible to be killed in war but at the same time forbidding them from drinking until three years later? I'm also of the presumption that prostitution would feed off of bar business, thus necessitating prostitutes to be of legal drinking age so that they fully maximize their clientele.

Also, legal approval of prostitution would necessitate all states harmonizing their age of consent to 18 to make things all square. What's the logic in allowing someone to have sex for fun at 16/17 when they can't do it as a job until 18?

I think that American culture is too protective of a notion of feminine fragility, for lack of a better term. Nothing drastically changes between the years of 18 and 21 for any person, but I think the thought of senior girls in high school turning tricks would be too repugnant for the populace to stomach. Possibly even on par with the thought of senior boys working as gigolos. Though I have no knowledge off hand of any high school aged male (15+) sleeping with a teacher, I'd imagine it would be met with the same stigma that Mary Kay Letourneau and Debra LeFave's received, though I think there an even if not more amount of male teachers screwing around with their female pupils.

What's the logic in allowing someone to play basketball for fun during high school but they can't do it as a job until one year removed from high school?

And FWIW, the age is 18 in Nevada so the standard is set.

Professional sports leagues have their own rules that aren't entirely relevant to the conversation. According to MO Labor Laws, a child can work in "hazardous" jobs provided they are older than 16. MO Age of Consent is 17, which stands to reason that assuming prostitution is legalized, then logically MO citizens can prostitute themselves at age 17. I don't have a problem with that (given the conditions necessary for relatively safe prostitution is provided for by law anyway) but I can imagine many people would though.

I'm still thinking that a proficiency test would be ideal. Not only would it guarantee that the women are qualified to do the work, but it would also be a quality guarantee. It would help set good price standards if you could approach a woman and ask to see her quality grades. For example, if you knew going in that the blonde scored an 86 on oral sex, a 68 on missionary, a 44 in doggy style, a 79 in reverse cowgirl, a 42 on anal, a 68 in nurse fantasies, an 11 in oil wrestling, a 72 in bondage, and a 96 on girl-girl threesomes, it would help you determine if she was a fit compared to the brunette on the next corner who scored a 72, 75, 88, 56, 19, 61, 14, 39, and 52. In turn, the weakest providers would be winnowed out over time, while those with the most natural talent and drive to succeed would be more successful and command higher wages. Everyone wins with transparent quality standards.

Excellent suggestion. Perhaps it would be like taxicabs where they have to present a license, and you can then post your comments online. When you pull your car up in a bad neighborhood, and she says, "Want to have a good time?", you would say, "Depends. Give me your number and let me look you up."
