This isn't "State of the Union" Day. Today is a celebration of our independence from tyranny and becoming a new nation 233 years ago. Take a few minutes to read the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, have a beer, grill some steaks, and read the Declaration itself. It really is an amazing founding document.

Wow. There were some real downers in this thread.

Yes, this country has problems. There's alot that needs to be done. However, I'm thankful for the freedoms I do have, thankful for the people who still fight today to protect those freedoms, and I'm certainly thankful we don't live under a religious tyranny. I think I'm going to take my one day to concentrate on the good things and celebrate them. I feel sorry for those who aren't able to do that.

The country's in the shitter. That's not exactly breaking news: it's been swirling around the bowl for a lot of years now. Still, the country is celebrating its independence, and that's deserving of some happy time. Cry in your beer starting on Monday. Enjoy the weekend in remembrance of people putting their lives on the line for freedom.
