Oh, cool! I get to watch this game in work tonight. Anything I need to know about the Royals?

JD10367

Brad Penny's pitching for us tonight. He's been playing okay lately, but he's not exactly a terror out there on the mound this season. The Royals should easily ring up 3 or 4 runs on him by the 5th, so it's just a question of how well you hold down the Sox hitters. Our bullpen's pretty decent, so this will probably end around 4-3 one way or the other...

LOL

Yeah, spotting the Sox a 3-0 lead at Fenway after one inning's not a great start.

Don't despair quite yet, though. Penny can easily melt down in a 5-run inning.

JAcobs is automatic to loom at strike 1 down the middle and then swing at shit no where near the zone. He is the exception to the rule of taking until you get a strike. He can't afford to look at strikes down the middle

Just wandered back to the computer. You were saying, LOL?

It's hard to explain but, even though the Sox are 2nd in the A.L. and leading their division, they haven't looked exceptionally good for a lot of the year, and they're maddeningly capable of both beating anyone and losing to anyone. If Beckett's not pitching, it's never a sure thing, even at Fenway.

back-back fuck ups on fielding for the Royals

DJ's left nut
07-09-2009, 08:21 PM
Good clubs v. bad clubs.

Good club - 3b realizes with a 3 run lead in the 8th, you try for the double play there and it's not even a close call. The extra out is far more important than getting the lead runner.

Bad club - 3b strangely retreats to the bag to get the lead runner and takes the DP out of the equation.

Addendum: Bad club -- defensively deficient 2b doesn't take the sure out at 1b and instead tries crazy ass throw while falling into the OF across his body.

Fellas -- You're up by 3 runs late. OUTS matter far more than a run or even two, you have a hammer closer to fall back on. Get outs.

I love having one of the best pitchers in baseball who, apparently, CANNOT pitch unless it's the 9th.

If we're not going to use Soria, he might as well be traded for a big return. Shit clubs don't need great closers.

Sac fly -- Kiddos, that's why you take the MFing double play or the easy out at 1b.

The team sure seems to have poor fundamentals for a manager that's going to "pitch, play fundamental baseball and figure out how to score a few runs..."

We'll send you guys Joe Thurson free of charge. You could put him at SS and have an entire squad of braindead infielders. I kid you not, Joe Thurston is the dumbest ballplayer I've ever seen; dumber than Joey Gathright. He's a GD retard.

You're worse than the Yankees in that you're winning recently. The real answer to your question is that you can find bandwagon Red Sox fans all over the place and they are often douchebags. Add on top of that actual Bostonian Red Sox fans who are 100% comprised of douchebags, and it makes for an unpleasant experience dealing with Red Sox fans.

I hate to break it to you, but I seriously doubt if most people here make any real distinction between the Red Sox and the Yankees. I certainly don't - they're the YankSox to me. Whether it's the bloated payrolls, the endless media suckfest, the bandwagon fans, the arrogance, or the sheer inequity of it all, you won't find much sympathy here.

I agree.

DeJesus is a "soft" player, both physically and mentally, IMO, and he's a guy that needs the pressure of being in the leadoff role to force him to assume the mentality of being patient at the plate. Last year, for example, the broadcasters (Fever, I believe) pointed out that David had NEVER swung when he was up 3-0 in the count.

Despite was DeJesus might say about where he bats "not mattering," everything about his demeanor suggests that he's not strong enough not to let things like this bother him.

You'll just have to learn not to take it personally.
This.

I can understand the bandwagon thing. There are a lot of pink-hats in Red Sox Nation. On the other hand, there are also a lot of Northeast transplants, so you'll find a lot of Floridians, Californians, and Arizonians who are Sox fans but actually came from New England.

As for douchebags, and "actual Bostonian Red Sox fans who are 100% comprised of douchebags", that's just an ignorant statement to make. Have you ever even been to Boston? I was born there and spent my first 27 years there, and I can say with complete accuracy and certainty that a MAXIMUM of 75% of them are douchebags. :D Seriously, though... There are plenty of douchebag fans and non-douchebag fans for every team. Red Sox fans think Yankee fans are the biggest douchebags in sports, and I'm sure the Yankee fans feel the same way about Sox fans. I'm sure you think every Oakland and Denver fan is a douchebag, and they probably feel the same way about Chiefs fans. Of course, the douchebag fans are more prominent, 'cause they're the ones hooting and hollering and getting drunk and going on the road to fill other stadiums.

Of course, I don't really care that much, 'cause I'm not a die-hard baseball fan. I watched the Sox when I was a kid in the 70s and can still recite that lineup (Butch Hobson, Rick Burleson, Jerry Remy, Carl Yazstremski, Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, Fred Lynn... can't remember that 1st baseman, though...). And I was happy they finally won a WS after 86 years. But I find it hard to get too worked up about baseball for two reasons: 1) they play 3,875 games a season so one individual win or loss doesn't matter that much until around mid-September, and 2) I find it hard to take MLB seriously without a salary cap. When teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets have three players who equal the entire payroll of a small-market team, that's just bullshit. It's one of the things that irritates me most about Yankee fans. "Woo hoo! We rock! We've outspent every team in baseball for the past 15 years!" How the hell can you be truly proud of a team that wins like that, when their payroll is $200M and an opponent's payroll might be $20M? That's why I enjoy football: with a salary cap, it's up to your owner to hire the right coach, and for the coach and GM to design the best organization, draft the best players, sign the best free agents. Aside from the odd bounce of the ball, and the odd crappy official, a Kansas City, Jacksonville, or Carolina is just as set up to win as a New York or a Los Angeles. The Red Sox are leading the A.L. along with the Yankees: big freakin' surprise, they also spend the most. Whatever.

You may not realize it because you live on the east coast. And a lot of it has to do with espn. There are 30 MLB teams. But you would never know that based on espn showing either the Yankees or Red Sox 99% of the time. :cuss::shake:

I can understand that... but, again, as in the ESPN thread, those teams also win, so they're the first ones mentioned in the sportscasts.

That all makes sense. It's the same stuff that irritates me. But, up here, the Boston and New York fans hate each other with an unrivaled passion. Hell, the citizens of those two areas hate each other with an unrivaled passion, LOL. You guys probably have some of that with, say, St. Louis maybe, I dunno.
