Great links golf. First time at Turnberry since 1994.

I'm watching on line since 0330. Tom Watson is in the leader in the first round at -4 after 12 holes as I type this. Weather seems okay so far for the ealry tee times. We'll see if it holds up.

Paddy has a later tee time. Maybe a hat trick?

Australian John Senden hits a long birdie putt to draw even with Tom Watson. Calcavecchia is at -3, Steve Stricker and Graeme McDowell are at -2.

I haven't seen any of this open, and I like Tiger, but when I turned on Sportscenter in hopes of seeing some Watson highlights, all they talked about and showed was Tiger.

I know Tiger missing the cut is a big stiory, but a 59 year Tom Watson leading the British Open after two rounds should be the bigger story, and it was just an afterthought to those dumbasses at ESPN.

ESPN sucks ass.

Unlike a player in a team sport, you do identify with a golfer from the area that you live in.

As a Kansas Citian, you might root for Pujols, but you think of Tom Watson as KC's represetative on the PGA tour.

You're ignorance is overwhelming. I find that most people who think golf isn't a sport are the people who couldn't hit a ball 30 yards, if they can hit it at all.

And we all know the only athletes are decathletes, everyone else is a poser.

And we all know the only athletes are decathletes, everyone else is a poser.

It's definately a skill but nothing I would consider physically challenging. I was at a driving range recently and was able to hit the ball over 200 yards after not picking up a set of clubs in years. I don't begrudge anyone who makes a ton of money playing this game of skill but don't ever ask me to call you an athlete.

As one of the only former decathletes on this board, I'd like to both reinforce and rebuke parts of your statement. Golf is more of a sport than NASCAR, which to me is the realm of competitive stuntment. I'm 45 years old, and I am impressed with the ability for anyone to walk 4 miles in the heat, carrying their bags or pushing a cart. And to think Ken Venturi walked 36 holes while on the verge of a heat stroke to win a U.S. Open is amazing.

Sports isn't always about strength, speed, and throwing. It also about control and body mechanics. Golf is a finesse sport - sometimes you have to extend, sometimes you have to pull it back. You integrate the human machine with a course that accentuates nature.

Golf is a fine sport, and one you can play for a lifetime. The fact that a man in his fifties can get out there and allow his experience to come through is proof that golf is one of the greatest and most challenging sports ever created.

This course is made for Watson's game. Doesn't have to drive it very long, just has to keep it playable, and make putts. He's done that for 3 days. Can it do it in the final 9? Believe me, I'm praying on every one of his shot's. He REALLY needs to make this birdie to get him going.
