Yeah, so have I. Those hairy bastards are getting lower and lower getting driven out by the wolves. There have been several black bear sightings (and shootings) here in town over the last year. It won't be long before a grizz or two makes it down there. The guy is damn lucky he had his gun with him, or he would be taking a dirt nap.

Here's a recent story from New Mexico. This particular fugitive from justice killed a cop and was then killed himself. He had been living in the Jemez Mountains, apparently for a number of years. Seems like people on the run often end up in New Mexico. Maybe it's our old west, outlaw image.

There are many crimes I can understand, messing with children is not one. This should be the one area where democracy and being civil turns a blind eye.

Yea kinda worries me going alone up there only carrying Bear spray. Hence I never go alone anymore, and whoever goes better be packing a .44

The thing is, that was a small sow, only 275 pounds, he's lucky he didn't run into a 550 pound male boar.

That's all good if the person you are with can:

A: Shoot

B: Has the balls to stand in there and shoot while they have something like that coming at them at 35 miles per hour.

That's exactly why I always bring my own gun. I sure as hell don't want to depend on someone else if shit hits the fan.

Don't get me wrong, even at that size, there is no man on the planet that could hang with it, but by grizzly standards, it wasn't a huge bear.

I was watching my two nephews a couple weeks ago and we stuck in a DVD I had from Netflix "Lewis and Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery".

Great documentary by the way.

Anyway when they reached lower Montana they were talking to natives who warned them of a 'tremendous animal that is extremely hard to kill'.

Clark's response was something along the terms of 'don't worry we have state of the art muskets, they won't survive a shot by these (can't remember the brand or model)".

In a nutshell after a couple grizzly encounters they couldn't believe how it took up to 12 shots with those state of art muskets to bring those pups down.

He wrote in his journal something along the lines of "we've had our fair share of Montana bear encounters for sometime, we don't wish to see anymore".

I got a chuckle out of that after hearing your caskull philosophy in Cooke City.

Same here, I was just being sarcastic.

Hell, I know from wrestling around with a 80lb German Sheppard he could rip me apart if he didn't like me. Just small for a grizzly.
