A couple days ago I was day dreaming about the possiblities the Chiefs can have running the wildcat this year. Considering Tyler Thigpen probably deserves some play time, hes quick and can throw the ball, using him in the Wildcat along with Jamaal Charles, LJ, might be an awesome formation. As usual Cassel would spread outside to the left as a flanker and Thigpen would stay in the shotgun with Charles and LJ on each side. Then leave Bowe on the right side. The possiblities here are endless. So what are some interesting ideas you can think of with the Chiefs using the wildcat?

My interesting idea:

The Chiefs don't use the wildcat.

I don't want to see a gimmick offense. No long term success will come from it.

Is this a statement or an opinion? I seem to remember the Chiefs using the Wildcat quite a bit in the mid-season last year. Remember that beautiful TD pass from Bradley to Thigpen?

I'm not sure he can throw the ball.

That being said, the Chiefs did show some gadget plays today.

Im not talking about this being our base offense. But most good teams today have plenty of "gadget" plays in their arsenal.

I'm not a fan of the Wildcat for anything other than an occasional crowd pleaser. I'd rather tell the other team what's coming and ram it down their throat than rely on gimmicky offenses to provide a potential big play.

I remember when we thought a flea flicker from LJ to Trent Green was considered groundbreaking for the Chiefs Trick Play department. I can't imagine how bad we'd look running a dumb ass wildcat formation.

Hopefully the chiefs can get to a point were they don't need to use a gimmick.

The Wildcat could work against some of the slower defenses, but id rather see the Oline and LJ runover people.....

Hopefully we have a QB in Cassel that would render this point moot. Can you imagine facing the Colts, and the OC pulling Manning to put in a QB like Thigpen to run a few "Wildcat" plays? I can't either, and hope we don't have to go there.

They need to practice against it, so they'll probably practice it.

Now whoever gets Vick... that could be one "Wildcat" formation that could be very tough to defend.

Hadn't thought about it.

But I like this idea. I'm sure between Haley and Gailey they can come up with some good stuff.

I'm not against it on a limited basis.

I don't understand why people are so against this idea a few times per game. A wildcat offense is basically a college version of the spread offense. The only difference is that the QB decides after the snap whether he's going to pass or run the ball.

Thigpen has run in the spread before. He's a natural in the shotgun. And he's a good runner. If the play can work with Ronnie Brown, a RB who has no idea how to throw the ball, I don't see why it couldn't work for Thigpen.

I think it's a great idea. Because it has to make the opposition be ready for it, watch film for it, prepare for it, and just piss them off. Throwing in the occasionally screw ball, well, I'm a big fan of it.

Well, considering the coaches will probably cut Thigpen at the end of this offseason, I'd say this idea is out the window.

Tell me why in the hell they would cut Thigpen? Lemme guess. Make Matt G. the 2nd string? It would just be plain stupid to cut Thigpen. Croyle will be long gone before Thigpen would.

Even if they do install wildcat plays we won't see them at training camp
they are far too secretive to do that
plus to be effective in the wildcat we'd need this guy

Truth. Hank Stram was creative, but he had fundamentally sound players. The Cat and the Spread are old news. If we want to ditch the gimmicks and get "Stram" on some peoples asses, that's cool with me.

But that's how it has to be; don't bring no old baloney to my picnic.

fuck the wildcat

maybe for a season total of 30 plays, but please, please, please not a staple of our offense.

I would like to see us use the "pistol" more often to keep defenses honest and keep LJ on the field.

I wonder if we continue with the "red ball" experiment of a no huddle offense where the play is called by a number that is on each players wrist. The old Bills killed defenses consistantly with the k-gun and red ball is a similar idea. Keeps opposing defenses from making needed adjustments and substitutions.

I would love to see Cassel grow to be our Jim Kelly (except maybe he could actually win the big one)

I'm all for a "gimmick" play now and then. it just gives the defenses something else to have to prepare for and think about.

Maybe, but it also embarrassed the hell out of some of us... Knowing that we ran the option or that Thigpen couldnt hit the simple out pattern... Unless you call smoking the beer vender 6 rows up accuracy....
