I think I heard that Kolb got injured though, so it makes sense for the Eagles to have a backup plan.

no, that's exactly what I've been thinking. I doubt he was allowed to train several hours per day in a maximum security prison. No way he could still have that speed. Speed comes naturally, so he may be able to re-acquire it though

very very interesting. That makes sense I guess, McNabb has been injured before and Vick is similiar, but not nearly as good as McNabb.

I don't know I really wouldn't call them similar. McNabb is actually a great QB, I don't think you can say the same about Vick. No doubt he's a fantastic athlete, but I don't think you can really say he's been a comparable QB. He just doesn't throw nearly as well or effectively to be an elite QB. His skills lay in his ability to improvise and make things happen on the ground, not through the air.

He'll make a great 'wildcat' and he could be lethal in that regard. But if you depend upon him being a QB to win it when the game is on the line I don't think you can. It was questionable before, and now he's 2 years older and hasn't played football in 2 years. He's going to be slower and even less accurate than he was before. Interesting weapon for any team, but unless he's magically learned how to play QB, he's not going to be someone you want to depend on to win a game for you.

Great slash/wildcat, marginal QB. By no means a replacement for McNabb.

I checked my facts before I post.

Vick, a free agent, is free to join a team for training camp and practices. Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.

not really

he isn't scrambling from the QB position while all the defense is spread out...he'd getting the ball basically as a rb with the defense keying on him....

Another thing that I think about this is, the way their defense is playing right now, combined with the passing of Jim Johnson, Philly may need all the playmakers/offensive firepower as much as they can get.

I know what you are saying, McNabb is a far superior passer but I was thinking that they wouldn't have to change their offense too much if they needed to play Vick.....maybe. It all depends on the shape that Vick is in, I actually wouldn't expect much out of Vick this season.

That's my point. As I said earlier, the Eagles are gonna need as much playmakers they can get/find.

I really think this is more of a "Slash" role for Vick. I mean, yes, he's been in the clink for two years, and people will hate him forever and ever, but the man does have a rare natural ability, and I think, after two years removed, he still can probably ball a little.

Only time will tell though.

Private? LMAO

Yeah, things sent to media members are generally regarded as private.

Private...LMAO

When he sent a statement, it was a report. Nick Athan was trying desperately to break a story, and it blew up in his face. Shit happens.

I heard the only reason Vick joined is because he thought it was the Philadelphia Beagles.

When he sent a statement, it was a report.

It wasn't. It was private, in-house communicaton. He was attempting to verify Mortensen's "erroneous" report.

Anyway, fuck off with your double standards.

Anyway, **** off with your double standards.

Whenever one has a conversation, and here's the kicker, of ANY kind with a member of the media, it's never private, unless that's made explicitly clear to said media person.

Athan was clowned, and if you'd just own it, the shit around here would be toned down at least 50%.

DeezNutz
08-13-2009, 10:29 PM
Oh, and it's only "in-house" if one shares the same "house."

Athan isn't a journalist, no matter how hard he tries to play one on the intraweb.

But regarding my supposed "double standard," what makes Athan legitimate? Here's the chance to prove me wrong. Major networks stand behind the other guys in question, providing them with not only a sense of legitimacy, but also a sense of trustworthiness for their audience.

What's Athan got? What are his credentials? Why should I not believe that he's a monkey throwing shit against the wall?

I don't know. He certainly doesn't go on the radio and say Scott Pioli isn't coming to the Chiefs.

That's Adam Schefter's department.

Anyway, I'm done with this bullshit. I can't dig out of this hole. Kiss my ass. LMAO

You know what's amazing about this board?

Mort reported that a deal with Mike Shanahan to be the Chiefs' head coach was close. He gets ZERO shit for it.

Well I think the diff is Mort is occasionally right....

He was never a great QB in the NFL.

NFC Championship game a few years back. (Chiefs haven't done that since Montana)

Only QB to rush for over 1,000 yards.

Completely changed the opposing team's playbook to try to contain him.

Mediocre WRs and TE to pass to.

Not the greatest QB, but he was pretty damn good at what he did.

Wasn't it Atlanta at Arrowhead that the Chiefs had 8 rushing TD's? That game was fun to watch.

I'm very tight on time today and don't ahve time to skim the thread. Could be a report.

According to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, who was in Philly for last night's Pats-Iggles game, two things of note:

1. Andy Reid, as a result of the troubles his sons have gotten into, really believes in second chances. He said he's done his homework, Goodell reinstated him and that Dungy's vote of confidence is meaningful.

2. Apparently McNabb and Vick are friends. When McNabb was at Syracuse he hosted Vick or something, and they've stayed in touch ever since. The plan for Vick is some wildcat stuff -- five to eight snaps a game, maybe McNabb goes out to WR at those times, etc. McNabb is on board with this and remains the starter.

Or, at least, that's the party line for now.

Alge Crumpler?

While he revolutionized the position in some ways, his issue is that he just lacks the top end accuracy that you need to be a top QB in the NFL.

Does PETA want to really make the argument that anyone convicted of dog fighting does not deserve to have employment ever again? This is just another example of PETA being opportunistic and taking on an issue that has no real merit. They are only going after Michael Vick because he's famous. The man served his time and deserves a second chance.

That said, I'm glad he did not go to the Chiefs. I don't think as a football player he adds anything to the table unless its in a wildcat package.

What does this signing say about the potential longevity of McNabb if Vick works out? McNabb has been in a state of unrest his entire time in Philly, and has hinted in recent years that he won't "play forever". Granted, Donovan is awfully happy to have him, and he should be athletically speaking. But in the next few years, assuming Vick can return to a polished form, watch out.

My guess is that they'll be plugging Vick in all kinds of scenarios this year and maybe next, but just watch him become #5's successor come 2011.

Please. Vick is easily solved by NFL defensive coordinators. He is a gimmick QB at best.

He did. He said Barack Obama made this trade possible, and referenced Micheal Jackson. And then something about white people eating babies and worshipping satan.

Today, McNabb loves the guy and helped get him there; lest McPukey forget, Donovan was benched last season. If he stinks up the joint in the first few games, those fickle and feisty Eagles fans will go from calling for Vick's head to calling for Vick to start at QB. The Eagles' O should be easy for Vick to pick up, and their backup QB situation sucks (Feeley's mediocre, and IIRC the other guy is still dinged up). I think Vick will make the roster as the backup QB, but he will see the field often as both a tailback and a receiver, and if Donovan sucks up the joint Vick will quickly be behind center. They can line Vick up in a split formation with a running back, and from there he can a.) run with it, b.) go out for a pass as a WR, or c.) take the ball from McNabb and throw it. It will certainly keep opposing defenses confused and honest; just running a play with Vick back there will cause the LBs and Safeties to hesitate and keep an eye on Vick, which will allow the Eagles' WRs to get some separation. As much as I despise Vick for what he did to dogs, I'm glad he didn't end up in the AFC 'cause he's gonna be a defensive headache.

I watched it and had the opposite impression. He came across as someone who sounded sincere about understanding what he'd done was wrong, and wanted to help correct that. He came across somewhat intelligent, although you could tell he'd been coached to play the community angle.

I agree that he sounded sincere. But he also sounded sincere when he said he found Jesus just before going into the slammer. We'll see. I wonder if he forgot about Jesus already ... I feel sorry for the Eagles for having to deal with that media circus now, but then again, I don't because I couldn't care less about Philly.
