How does the tracking ap work? Triangulation or something?

Pretty much. Takes your bounces between closest couple cell phone towers (not necessarily three) and estimates your location down to about 10 yards in the city. Obviously not as accurate if an area with a low tower distribution.

Scary stuff. I just read a story not too long ago the police tracked down a murder suspect minutes after pursuit started buy tracing him to his cell phone.

Here's a site that gives a map of antennas and towers in your area for a little better understanding of how easy it is to track a person to their cell phone in a given area.

The more dots, the easier to pinpoint a person.
