Ah well. Now we will be bitching about Ndukwe. His pass blocking sucks.

So, if Herb Taylor AND McIntosh are both gone, who is the back up LT? Does that make Richardson the starting RT and Ndukwe the backukp RT? Ndukwe doesn't look ready to be the starting RT yet. Maybe Haley / Pioli know something that we don't? John Runyon? Any other OT's available via FA or trade?

Bill Lundberg

This most certainly means there are people out there that they plan on picking up for the O-Line.

I was wondering the same thing. Seems scary to me. I thought Taylor was a solid backup LT.

I trust that Haley knows what he's doing, though, especially on offense. Just really surprised.

I bet they cut 20 more and bring in at least 6. As brutal as the first quarter of the schedule is we don't really hurt ourselves by starting guys who haven't been in camp. By the week 5, the new guys should be up to speed and the team should start showing improvement.

Alleman made Ghiaciuc expendable. Not sure why Taylor was released though.
He was great LT insurance. Not a good move by the Chiefs.

I would say it's more about Wade Smith than Alleman. Smith played a lot of Center last night and didn't look too bad.

If Taylor can't play tackle then he isn't great/good or anything else even as a backup. I personally think Taylor belongs inside but if they aren't going to move him inside than they might as well cut him.

Actually, he is a left tackle. Started 40 games for Clemson.

The Chiefs moved him to right tackle and he's struggled.

In preseason, they had him at left tackle early and he looked very good and far more comfortable.

If anything, I think they kept Richardson to be the "swing" tackle because of his size and the fact that he has definitely progressed from last season.

The last regime had the worst offensive line in the NFL.

While this line again may be the worst in the NFL, it'll at least have a different set of cast members.

I agree. The fact that they (Pioli & Co.) are actually doing something, something that obviously needed to be done is encouraging. Rome wasn't built in a day, and for a team that is devoid of so much talent there is a lot of building that needs to be done, but it's nice to see that the major deficiencies are being addressed.

There was nothing more depressing than Carl calling it a day the moment training camp broke and he gave the keys to Herm and just sitting pat all season long. It doesn't look like the new crew is going to do that - at least until you've got a playoff caliber team.

I've always wondered; Does Ray Farmer call these guys in individually or does he just have them line up and tell them all at once. Because calling in 23 people and having to tell each one of them that they're cut must be kind of difficult. I could understand doing that for the high profile player, but for the nobodies, is there really a point in meeting them individually?

Read...

2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
person
DaJuan Morgan, FS, North Carolina State
Behind Kenny Phillips of Miami, DaJuan Morgan will be the best safety on most draft boards. During his junior (and final) season at North Carolina State, Morgan led the team with 97 tackles, three interceptions and six pass break-ups. He is a great athlete and has plenty of speed and decent enough hands to compliment his above average coverage ability. He can do just about everything from the free safety position, but for now his value on special teams might be his greatest asset.

Morgan is still learning the position after starting just one year for the Wolfpack. His experience at wide receiver is not a bad thing, but he did just move to safety in 2005 and has plenty left to learn about the position. He tends to project better than he plays, but most of that can be blamed on inexperience. Once he learns the position a little more, his production should start living up to his Combine numbers. The All-ACC Second-Team selection plays with emotion and that has led to some problems in the past with his consistency. If he can play with a level head and spend a year or two fine tuning his technique, Morgan has the athletic tools to be the best safety of this class.

Morgan could slide into the second round if somebody falls in love with his athleticism and potential. At the very least they would be getting a great special teams player and a serviceable safety. And it is very feasible that they could get a whole lot more than that from Morgan.

4/11 Update: DaJuan Morgan continues to climb up most draft boards. On some boards he might even be a little bit ahead of Miami safety Kenny Phillips, but that might be stretching it a bit. Either way, Morgan is looking like a first day selection. The New York Giants are in dire need of a young safety and if Morgan makes it until the last pick in the second round, the Super Bowl Champions should be happy to have him.

You don't give up on players like this after 1 year. He's the complete opposite of Tamba Hali. Hali came out as a finished product, Morgan came out as an extremely raw player.

Kris Griffin anyone? And there's a reason Brown signed with a bottomfeeding team like KC...Morgan is still developing and has potential to get better, Brown is maxed out and the fact that we are having this argument means Brown isn't playing much/if any better than Morgan. That means you keep the young player with more potential and might be around to help you when your 2 win team is ready to compete.

Why is this even an argument/conversation? Brown is 30, has been injured for the past four seasons (lower leg injuries to boot) and lacks the athleticism to be effective as a free safety.

Morgan, Page and Pollard have all shown flashes and have the physical attributes you want in a safety. You've got to remember that these guys played and learned under a Herm led system. It's like they are learning to play football all over again.

A more relevant topic would be: "Why aren't we trading McBride, Hali and Dorsey and then draft Dunlap and Selvie?"

Sorry, but pre-season doesn't mean shit other than getting these guys to learn a brand new system, and there were times last season where Pollard was the only bright spot on the defense. The guy hustles and seems to be around the ball all the time. Missing a couple of tackles in the preseason doesn't equate to letting him go in favor of a 30 year old with a history of leg injuries. That's just plain dumb.

And moving from a 43 to a 34 will have some growing pains. It's why Vrabel looks better than anyone else on the field so far. He's used to that scheme where the others aren't. Heck, I think it was Pollard who said something to the effect of players not having a clear idea where they were supposed to be and what their assignments were under the Herm/Gunther experiment.

So, to reiterate, why aren't we looking to trade McBride, Hali and Dorsey, pick up another first round pick and draft Dunlap, Suh and Selvie/Kindle?
