Long claimed off waivers by Chiefs
Posted: September 16th, 2009 | Steve Wyche | Tags: Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Lance Long, Todd Haley

Wide receiver Lance Long, one of five players featured in the On The Fringe series, was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs after being released Monday by the Arizona Cardinals. Long was signed to the practice squad, but I would venture to guess that within the month, he will be activated to the 53-man roster.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley was a huge fan of Long’s last season when Haley was the offensive coordinator with the Cardinals and, based on conversations I had with people in Arizona, was a huge reason why Long made the final cut in Arizona. When we were doing our OTF series with Long, people with the Cardinals repeatedly said that if Long didn’t make their roster, Haley and the Chiefs would snatch him up immediately. Well, when Long was cut yesterday, they did.

how can you claim a guy and put him on your practice squad? I thought if you claimed someone, they had to be on your 53 man roster?

This is like one big contradiction.

Ummm....because he was released by the Cardinals. If you take a player off of another team's practice squad....then he has to be put on the 53 man roster.

Hootie's correct:

Long was waived. No one claimed him. He then agreed to join the Chiefs as a practice squad player.

If the Chiefs had claimed him, they would have been required to cut an existing player to make room for him on the 53.

Long claimed off waivers by Chiefs

Given this article title (sounds like it's false), I would have posted a 2nd thread as well. There is a big difference between claiming this guy off waivers and being forced to cut an existing player. And this guy clearing waivers and signing to our practice squad and cuting another PS player instead.

Big difference.

Story and thread are wrong, it seems. But given the article, you were right to post the thread, IMO.

Todd Haley is starting to make Matt Millan look like he hated the WR position.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Btw, what do you consider No(r)-Cal? I was in SF and Monterey < 2 weeks ago and they aparently considered it to be north of SF.
