Source: Chargers sign DT Alfonso Boone

Veteran lands in San Diego Aaron Wilson

Now, it's official.

Alfonso Boone is a San Diego Charger.

The veteran free agent defensive lineman signed a one-year contract today with the Chargers, a league source told National Football Post.

Brad Biggs first reported for National Football Post that Boone was on his way to the Chargers.

Boone was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs after starting 19 games over the past few seasons.

Boone has a background with Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and defensive line coach Don Johnson from his time with the Chicago Bears.

Boone was on the Oakland Raiders' radar earlier this month, but that interest fizzled out when they acquired Richard Seymour via a trade from the New England Patriots.

meh

we cut him with our crappy Dline, if that tells you anything.

he's a warm body

maybe he be more motivated in diego land but he was JUST A GUY when he was in KC

we put him at DT and then we put him at 3-4 DE

he's not terrible, i guess. He just never really brought anything great either.

A rotational guy, who has seen better days. He'll make a few plays, but I'd lower the bar.

He has a good motor in spot duty. I think he could give you a couple of decent series per game. Very marginal as an every down player.

He was one of the few D linemen we've had who could actually break through and get to the QB. Good luck to him

Im my mind he is a guy when on a team other than the chiefs will excel. The Chiefs seem to have that effect on players.

The only way he could be worse is if he was a play cut from our offensive line.

He's not a bad player, but maybe past his prime.

He did fine as a Chief. His career went downhill when Gunther fucking Cunningham thought it was a good idea for whatever dumb reason to convert him to be a DE. He played at a lower weight last year, then was asked to play 3-4 DE this season. I think if he stuck with a 4-3 DT, he would have been fine as a rotational guy.

Dont get to excited. He might give you a nice play or 2 every once in a while but he will never be a dominant lineman.

I'll put it like this . Daniel Snyder offered Pioli his first round pick in 2010 and 2011 and Pioli turned him down whereas Snyder had to settle for Haynesworth.

I thought players from our team wouldn't make another roster?

This is a sterling observation. His best year was as a 4-3 DT next to Jared Allen, and I thought he performed quite well that year.

Yeah, he failed miserably as a 4-3 DE. Seemed likr he was a better penetrator, and not so much a power guy, not real sure what the Chargers see in him.

BUT while he's pretty old, he didn't take a lot of snaps in chicago, so if you can get him to produce, you might get a few years out of him.

Realistically, if you expect as much out of him as about everyone else signed in this timeperiod, it would be reasonable.

Last year in the second half when the Chiefs were floundering, he basically quit on the team. He sat out some games with marginal "injuries." He'll be one of the first rats to bail off the ship if things don't go your way. He's just after a paycheck.

Good riddance.
