At lunch today, I sat one table away from Mike Jurecki, who covers the Cardinals for one of the sports talk stations here in Phoenix. I've know Mike since 2000 when NFLScoop.com started.

We briefly talked and he informed me that the Cardinals and Chiefs are talking trade involving Boldin and Larry Johnson. Arizona is just frustrated with their ground game and they need a spark.

We both feel the deal will never happen but at least the teams are talking. He also said the Baltimore Ravens have inquired about Boldin.

That is at least debatable. It is tough to judge behind the swiss cheese line the Chiefs have, but even so, LJ has looked abysmally slow hitting the hole and getting through it.

Edit: With the exception(fluke?) of last season's 12 games, LJ's ypc have went down every year since 2005.

Don't get defensive about your boy. His YPC have went down, and dramatically, with the exception of last year. You have to see how incredibly slow he hits the hole and how he is rarely, if ever, breaking tackles like he used to.

2005 5.2 ypc
2006 4.3 ypc
2007 3.5 ypc
2008 4.5 ypc
2009 2.5 ypc through three games

Even if we had LJ of 4 years ago he'd still be averaging 2.5 ypc. He's a system RB that relies on a line that can actually open up holes. He gets hit before he gets to the line 9 times out of 10. We need Charles to be the starter because he's much quicker and can make the first guy miss behind the line.

This.

Not reaching GC, LJ has lost a step. That is all I was saying to begin with. If you cannot see that he has lost a step you are not watching very closely or your LJ man crush is blinding you.

The line is terrible, yes. But, there have been more than a few occasions where a hole is there and LJ is just slow getting to and through the hole. Would a better line help his YPC? Yes. Would it give him back the step he seems to have lost? No.

I agree with you, but he is still an effective runner. The line is a much larger issue. I do like Charles, though. I would like to see him get more carries on first down to see what he can do.
