They can have their 5th back.

Otherwise, no thanks.

He's 30. He's probably got 5-6 left in him. But I'm not sure Haley wants a diva on the team. T.O wasn't a good match for him.

Isn't he the mental midget that broke his teammates jaw?

Carolina probably wants too much for him, given the success he had a few years ago. Personally I think we need Olinemen, not recievers. Cassell rarely has enough time to complete a 10+ yard pass anyways adding Steve Smith would just make him mad as well as be a wasted pick.

Jaw busting aside, Steve Smith is someone you want on your team. Doubt he'd want to go into a worse situation though.

30 year old malcontent that will be 31 when next season begins.

For fucks sake, why do I always get the feeling that any player over the age of 25 is too fucking old to play for the Chiefs for most people around here?

I'd take him, dude is sick. Would be a little concerned with his attitude but defiantly a play maker. I know everyone keeps saying no, we need o line help. Really though we need both, get em when you can.

Smith isn't a malcontent.

Yes, he has a massive temper and some impulse control issues.

At the same time, his teammates really do love him.

I'd love him as a FA stop-gap or for a 4th rounder, but he'll cost more than that.

The kid's incredibly skilled and tough as nails. Any good team needs a player or two that's damn sure he's the best player on the field - Smith would provide that while also providing a great complement to Bowe.

He'll be 31 before next season starts.

He broke a teammate's nose last year in training camp in a fight and was suspended for 2 games.

He's a chronic complainer and most likely wouldn't be around when/if the Chiefs contend in the next 3-4 years.

I know his background. I don't think he is a chronic complainer though. Is he this year, yes. He wants to win. Seems most players like him. He would be 32 in our 3rd year of this overhaul.

Randy Moss, Eddie Kennison, and many others have had the same complaints made about them, change is good sometimes. Most receivers are always bitching for the ball anyhow.

Age is the only issue. I doubt he'll still be a top performer during our SB run. I could care less if he broke Mario Williams or Mike Goff's nose. Dude can flat out play.

Until Cassel has even adequate protection, it would be foolish to trade a valuable draft choice for a WR already in his 30's.

I'd trade a pick for him just so that he would break Mike Goff's nose.

I said age is the only issue. That means that it is an issue and that I wouldn't give much for him. If he was 27, sign him up.

Why not?! He's wasting away on a team w/no QB right now. He needs a change of pace. Bring him in. They can have anyone on our team except Cassel and Flowers....

I'd take Smith here in a heartbeat. With that said though, I doubt we could keep Cassel on his feet long enough to utilize Smith's speed.

10-20-2009, 08:08 AM
hell, I'd take Smith for Waters even up.
Waters to GB, CHI or Philly for a wr makes some sense. each of them could use some Oline help and we could use a young, quality wr.
I doubt we can trade for much that will help us on the Oline.

ROFLROFL That's the way the Planet is. We want a 53 man roster of 24 year old pro bowlers. Anything else is just a waste of time.

Nah man, his WHOLE game is speed. Bigger guys can last a little longer, but I don't think Smith can. He's got game now (Even though Delhomme can't get him the fucking ball), but He's not going to last too long.

I agree. He has been their entire passing game for years. Plus he spent some time working kickoffs.

Carolina probably wants too much for him, given the success he had a few years ago. Personally I think we need Olinemen, not recievers. Cassell rarely has enough time to complete a 10+ yard pass anyways adding Steve Smith would just make him mad as well as be a wasted pick.

I agree that Carolina wants too much for him, but he would be valuable on this team. He can run quick slants better than anyone else on the team. As well as WR screens. Nobody on the Cheifs roster has his kind of game. But yeah, they're probably going to want waaaay too much.

Suspend disbelief:

If we're just talking money, sign me up. But with draft compensation...it will never happen.

Pretty much this. If they wanted a 1st for Peppers, they'll probably want at least a 2nd for Smith. That's way too much. I wouldn't give more than a 4th.

These.

Hell, people here were not keen to the idea of trading a 3rd/5th and two scrubs for Braylon Edwards, who is 5 years younger, and arguably a better WR right now.
