View Full Version : Chiefs What does LJ's absence mean for the offense?

Are we going RBBC or is Charles going to carry it 20 times?

Will the running game actually improve now that defenses won't be keying on a particular guy?

More passing?

I think we ought to go with a 2-back system like most everyone is doing now. Charles and Smith, maybe Savage if he shows something? Savage is the backup to Charles and now active on gamedays more often.

If Charles is carrying it more on offense, does someone else need to return kicks?

I'm confident Charles, Smith and Savage will be able to fall down after gaining 2.7 yards; and then probably fumble. So it'll be more interesting for sure.

Hello Kolby Smith.
Also, Cassel gets killed, Brodie gets killed, Gooty gets killed. Got nobody to pick up the blitz. At least LJ was starting to figure that out somewhat...

we'll go through all our RB's because they can't take the beating that will ensue.

I'd be curious to see if he'll be on your "Players Who Were Wussies, Quitters, Convicts and Wastes of Space" list.

Yeah I'm wondering about this. Larry improved his pass blocking noticeably. He actually decleated Merriman on Sunday.

No one else has his size. Kolby Smith better be ready because Charles is too small to take on a 250 pound linebacker effectively.

LJ's been absent from any production the past 2.5 years. Why should this be any different.

LJ has been our entire game plan for 3 years now, could send D Coordinators into a state of confusion.

I was gonna say a lower incidence of hemorhoids for our O-linemen, but you were quicker.

His 2.7 YPC can probably be equaled by someone else. Frankly, though, it won't make much of a difference, because LJ was only part of the problem (just like Cassel is only part of the problem). The O-line is still the same.

With Kelby back, the the season in the toilet anyway....good riddance. Seriously, the dude is too much of a liability, with little or no upside at this point. Boot his ass to the curb.

What does LJ's absence mean for the offense?

0 - 0 = 0

it means maybe we now how a RB and running style that match.

running LJ outside is stupid
running inside with niswanger is stupid

we kept shoving a square peg in a round hole and wondered why it wasn't working.

LJ deserves to have Maurice Clarret's Pro Career.
He got way more than he deserved thanks to the Great O-Line he played behind.

I'm sure just about any scrub back on the waiver wire could manage 2.7 ypc.

Maurice Clarett would have had LJ's numbers running behind those beasts. Fug...Trint ended up with 4,000 yards every year with those monsters blocking for him.

Best offensive line ever assembled.

An analogy is in order.

Take it as you will.

When one is drowning, said one cannot be choosy on the type of rescue line being thrown their way.

OR, Catching an anvil only makes the invititable sooner realized.

*gets misty eyed & choked up when trying to speak*

Anyhoo, i'll take Smith, Charles & Savage over lawrence any day... platoon them with Kolby leading the charge, they are all more capable of getting something done behind this line than lawrence IMO.

More quicks, speed, cutting ability, lateral movement/jukage.

As has been said, we cant be any worse.

Lots of WR screens, crosses, and outs. Run n Shoot baby!

But, you gotta have smart receivers and a smart QB. Not sure it would work out here.

not like we're going to set the football world ablaze with or without him. By the time they get this team ready to go better than .500 he'll be too old to play anyway.

Imagine what it's like game planning for the Chiefs the last few seasons...

Some coach: "OK, we have the Chiefs this week. Let's work out a game plan..."
Another coach: "Well, the first thing is to figure out what to do with Larry JohnBWAHAHAHAHAAAA!"
All coaches in the room: "BWAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
Another coach: "Yes, how WILL we dislodge him from Niswanger's ass?"
All coaches in the room: "BWAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
Some coach: "Ok, Ok, seriously. *heheh* What do we do about that offensive linBWAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
All coaches in the room: "BWAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"
Another coach "Stop, you're killing me! Seriously, my stomach hurts!"
Some Coach: "Alright, well, let's just knock off for the day. We'll "worry" about LJ later...BWAHAHAHAAAAA"
All coaches in the room: "BWAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!"

The team loses nothing....30-50 yards a game at best.
2 back with Charles and Smith will prove to be a better solution...imo

Shouldn't someone with the massive resources of WPI be telling everyone what to expect? Oh wait... you're going to gather thoughts and input here and then squeeze them into an article for later in the week.

Well played, but I've pretty much already filled my quota of insightful, timely and hard-hitting sports journalism for the week. It's time to kick back and enjoy the fruits of my labor. And the fruits themselves. The clubz will be kickin' tonite!

Yep! Im excited to see the Chiefs w/o LJ. He was holding the running game back when we really needed a change of pace. No, Charles and Smith wont make our running game fantastic. But it will be an improvement.

LJ's one of those guys that makes me hate professional athletes, absolutely no class. 99% of them lack class and humility, it's like all those players that they hightlight before games that talk about how they have blessed with all this talent to make them the best there is. You never heard a guy like say Steve Young, Joe Montana, Marcus Allen talk that way. Guys like that would pass around the recognition. These guys today are totaly classless save a few guys.

GTFO LJ, you're a total POS!!!!!!!

I don't know if it's poor playcalling or LJ just not being able to pick the right hole, but it should hopefully be the end of the predictable 1st down "run up the gut" play.
