Pretty cool stuff!

Also pretty cool that WW1 ended on the 11th of November... just kind of neat coincidence that they are that close together, at least to me.

(and looking at 11/11 events... its a pretty bloody day)

edit:

Ok, cooler for me as a philosopher (weird to say but I guess that's how it works with the degree) is that Descartes had his dream that would inspire his meditations on the night of November 10th, 1619.

November 11 at 11:00am. It's known as 11-11-11. Even though this date and time had been agreed apon days before, fighting still went on and men died right up to 11:00am. Crazy!

It's tradition to buy a Marine a beer today. At minimum, call a Marine and wish him happy birthday.

I also heard it was tradition for a cake on this date. The oldest Marine cuts it and serves a piece to the youngest Marine there. Don't know if that's true or not.

This is true. About 17 years ago, I was the recipient of this piece of cake, from a Private Albert Powis (sp.). He was a Marine from WWI, and gave a motivating speech about trench warfare and his beloved "necklace of ears." Semper Fi, all you Devil Dogs out there...may you all have a wonderful 234th.

Why are there Marines on Navy ships? Because sheep would be too obvious.
