Thanksgiving was at my mom's house this year, so I made people drink beer. Most of them appreciated the amazing pairing skills that I have. I served Saison Dupont, Boulevard Saison-Brett, Goose Island Sofie and Schlafly Biere de Garde.

Just depends on which side of the family we get together with. If it's my wife's side and I'm dealing with in-laws and bunches of little brats running around then YES, if it's my parents then no.

One year there was an attempted assault with a broken wine glass and someone's neck, but that was my step-dad's sister, so it's not like it was a blood relation or anything.

I usually whip up some bloody marys- I'm good at that - before dinner, then some red and white with. We had the coffee drink option after. I'm usually too busy cooking to drink much.

Hell no. Drunks linger longer. My offerings include milk, juice, water and tea.

You could have it if you want to. But don't expect to be a lingerer. Nobody likes lingerers

Available but nobody drank. Years past the war department's kids would get drunker than a warlord but this year only the daughter and SIL with kids came and everything was cool. Hell they even went to the local high school track and ran about 3 miles to work it off afterward. Not this kid though, I want to enjoy my Turkey Day pig-out.

I am 50 and grew up in an Italian family and it wasn't unusual to let the kids have a glass of the table wine. And believe it or not parents actually used to do what you suggested.

depends on who's having it. if it's at our house anything goes. yesterday, it was at my mother-in-law and her husband. dry.
got there at 12:30pm, ate and left 2pm. came home and had a few cold ones. got a few comments on "leaving early", but i had old uncle ernie w/me, the the old fart at 2 pieces of pecan pie and 4 pieces of punkin pie. dude's 84 years old and weighs a buck thirty. i had to get him home before he shit himself.

I missed this thread the first time through, but yes.

We went through a case of beer, 10 bottles of wine and a half bottle of Makers Mark today - for around 30 people - 5 of which do not drink.

I read on WPI that's exactly what George Blowfish had at last sunday's pre-game tailgate.

That doesn't really seem like much to me. An average of 1 beer, 1 to 2 glasses of wine, and a mixed drink or two per person depending on the size of the bottle of Makers. Seems like everyone would be feeling pretty good, but no one would be shitty.

Exactly.

Especially considering I knocked out almost 2 bottles of Pinot Noir on my own.

Fucking pussy in-laws. Except for my FIL, who I was reloading almost as often as I was for myself.
