View Full Version : Life What do you want for Christmas?

Rain Man
11-30-2009, 07:09 PM
It's that time of year. And no, I'm not asking because I'm planning to give you a gift.

What's on your list if your spouse, parents, significant other, biker gang cohorts, concubines, friends, kids, pets, parole officer, henchmen, first mate, alien abductors, platoon mates, terrorist cell members, or Dustin Colquitt decides you deserve a gift?

Since Christmas usually rolls around and my wife asks me what I want and I don't remember, I actually started keeping a rolling list. Here's what's on my list. Note that it's aspirational, so I'll probably only get maybe 10 or 20 percent of it, and will also get some surprises that aren't on the list. Also, it's in chronological order, so the order is only when they got put on the list and not preference.

Having said this, we may not do individual gifts this year and will instead get a new TV stand and chair for our TV room. We haven't decided yet.

1. Nike Custom Tennis Shoes (another pair - it's a standing request)
4. Massage gift certificates (I ask for this every year)
5. NFL Head Coach computer game (I've learned that they don't make this for computers? Bah, humbug.)
6. Brain scan (Because everyone should have their own brain scan)
7. Credit toward Brazil trip (I want to go.)
8. Jhane Barnes clothes (brighter colors preferred)
9. Robert Graham clothes (brighter colors preferred)
10. DVD of Cheers, The Office, The Simpsons, Barney Miller, News Radio (I own no DVDs and feel like I should.)
11. Aquarium (30+ gallon) for office (I'm never going to get this.)
12. Piano/Keyboard (must have real keys, not digital - I'm never going to get this)
13. Duluth Eskimos t-shirt: http://www.cafepress.com/+duluth_eskimos,270428650 Since going to the Hall of Fame this year, I really want a throwback jersey from the 20s, but you can't find them anywhere. Why is the NFL missing this great marketing opportunity?
14. Duluth Eskimos jersey: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.sportywalrus.com/ekmps/shops/sportywalrus/images/eskimos%255Bekm%255D64x80%255Bekm%255D.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.sportywalrus.com/duluth-eskimos-nfl-vintage-sweatshirt-jersey-247-p.asp&usg=__EjITHTdlYW8yi0AO3RCAEPKvEf4=&h=80&w=64&sz=2&hl=en&start=7&um=1&tbnid=TdNVt7GK8yFbzM:&tbnh=74&tbnw=59&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dduluth%2Beskimos%2Bjersey%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26rlz%3D1T4GGLL_enUS335US335%26um%3D1
15. Pottsville Maroons t-shirt: http://www.svsports.com/store/Schuylkill-Valley-Sports-Pottsville-Maroons-1925-World-Champions-S-S-Tee-OSCARItem_10572+3303020.aspx
16. Pottsville Maroons sweatshirt: http://www.svsports.com/store/Jam-Maroons-Vintage-Hood-OSCARItem_150+3304088.aspx
17. National Geographic Genographic Test - https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html (Either paternal or maternal or both) (I want to know my roots from the last 100,000 years.)
18. Audiobook gift certificate for Ipod. (Might as well learn while I jog.)
19. USFL team sweatshirt (surprise me with team, but must be USFL team): Note multiple pages of options. http://distantreplays.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=21&sort=20a&page=4 (It'd be cool to walk around in a USFL t-shirt, because the only people who'll know what it is are the really cool people.)
20. Mad bomber fur hat. (Already in inventory from a fall opportunity purchase, so I know I'm getting this.)

No worries, my full time job with overtime turned into a part-time job (24hrs a week). Been looking for a while but not much luck. We are getting by for the most part though so I can't complain too much, others are much worse off.

So far I have:

* A good pair of noise canceling headphones, such as
Sennheiser PXC350, Bose QuietComfort 15, Jabra C820S, Shure SE201, Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4, or Klipsch S4

* Beer

Still need to browse Barnes and Noble, thinkgeek.com, etc....

Seeing that my parents are both strapped for cash this year due to dad's new car. It is going to be a light year gift wise, but I am more than happy to oblige, seeing as the list I have come up with will not require a lot of folding change.
The List Starting with the highest desired.
1. Samurai Cop (See Clip Below)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFvoxWFKPoI

Yes, I am completely serious, If this clip is any indicator, this movie may well be the most unintentionally hilarious movie one can find. I have been wanting this movie for the past six months and will be ecstatic if my mother pays the bargain of $13.96 over amazon.

2. Opeth's Lamentations DVD

I have become a major fan of Opeth over the past year and would love to have a video of them in concert. I have heard that they are fantastic in concert and it is my deepest wish that they will come to the states sometime soon.

3. Super Mario Galaxy

Hey, I love playing the wii as much as anyone, I have heard this game is a masterpiece, and after beating super mario 64 with my friend two summers ago, this is another one of my deepest wishes.

Anyways, that about wraps it up, if my mother can find a way to get them under the synthetic tree it could help create another fantastic christmas.

Still need to browse Barnes and Noble, thinkgeek.com, etc....

I got a thinkgeek catalog tonight, and I have to say that this item made me laugh out loud.

http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/bb2e/

http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/front/bb2e_tauntaun_sleeping_bag.jpg

Slumber in the Belly of the Beast

In the sub-zero wasteland of the planet Hoth, only the strong survive... and of course those lucky Jedi protected by the thick skin of a Tauntaun. Now after exhaustive movie viewing research and analysis ThinkGeek Labs has isolated the exact synthetic compounds needed to re-create Tauntaun fur. What have we done with this supreme knowledge? Created a Tauntaun sleeping bag of course.

This high-quality sleeping bag looks just like a Tauntaun, complete with saddle, printed internal intestines, and a plush lightsaber zipper pull. Now when your kids tell you their favorite Star Wars movie is "Attack of the Clones" you can nestle the wee-ones snug in simulated Tauntaun fur while regaling them with the amazing tale of "Empire Strikes Back".

Use the plush lightsaber zipper pull on the Tauntaun sleeping bag to illustrate how Han Solo saved Luke Skywalker from certain death in the freezing climate of Hoth by slitting open the belly of a dead Tauntaun and placing Luke inside the stinking (but warm) carcass. If your kids don't change their tune on which Star Wars film is the greatest ever, you can do your best Jar Jar impression until they repent.

Wow dude. Do what the doctor dude says.

Earlier this year I was dropping a deuce and when I pulled my pants up, I noticed that my left shin was numb. I had a short, but pretty epic meltdown thinking I was having a stroke (I'm 26). I realized that nothing else was numb and I could sill think straight, so my brain wasn't shutting down. But I went to the doctor and since it was localized to my shin she told me to hang out and see if it went away....:spock:

So even though my doctor is a toolbox, I can relate to your scared shitless feeling.
