Rain Man and I are on our way back from a business trip and Delta is pitching free tryouts of their in-flight WiFi. Pretty cool.

That's really all I guess. Now back to your regularly scheduled time wasting...

Until Rainman posts a poll about Delta's free wi-fi I won't be inclined to believe you.

You should've posted this when you were in the bathroom taking a dump, I'm fairly certain that would've been the first 30,000 ft poop thread.

Ooohhh...that's an idea. I bet people would look at me funny if I tried to walk down the aisle with laptop in hand, though.

Rain Man and DaFace are like the Chiefsplanet elite, mocking us planet bound simpletons as they sip champagne among the clouds.

Don't pretend you guys aren't flying on the Chiefsplanet jet. We know it exists.

But it's only for the elite.

I can't get this site to load, but maybe it's because I'm inside their network.

OK, so riddle me this flight gurus. According to our itinerary, the flight out was supposed to be 3:45 or so on the way out, but the flight back was supposed to be 5:00 or so. I understand jet streams having an effect and that type of deal, but I thought that was a bit extreme.

The flight out took right at about 3:45, but now the return flight is scheduled to get in over an hour early. I'm certainly not complaining, but why the hell did they schedule the flight for such a long period of time?

Head and tail winds can greatly affect flight times and delays plus and minus hours either way. They can't even predict the weather why we we expect them predict head and tail winds...

Airlines have been gradually extending their flight times, giving themselves extra cushion when in comes to "on-time" performance.

A trip from STL to O'Hare used to be scheduled for exactly 1 hour.

Now, it's scheduled for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

When the wife and I went to Vegas in August, we left 25 minutes late, and arrived 15 minutes early - and that's traveling against the jetstream.

Nothing but a scam, allowing the airlines to pat themselves on the back.

Well, I guess I'd rather they get me in "earlier" than "late."

I don't know anywhere near enough about it to say if this is relevant, but I've read that airlines are flying slower to save fuel these days.

Perhaps the speed that is optimal for fuel economy is further slowed but the jet stream factor? ie it may be cheapest to fly at output X on the way there and output Y on the way back? Add in the other affects of the jet stream (faster / slower plane) and it could account for the diff?

Hell, even I don't know what Im on about

Go to flightaware.com and look up your flight. It will show you the breakdown of direction, speed, and all that fun stuff. And then you can compare it to past flights and see if this always happens or what the difference was.

If you jerk off on the plane, does that count as "Mile High Club" status?

I rock at sudoku. and I finished the entire crossword, mapped a one-year world journey day by day on the route map, and wrote snide comments on many of the ads in the inflight magazine. it's fun to enlighten the next passenger about the subliminal messages.

In the past six hours I've conveyed myself in two taxis (one with an Eritrean pilot and one with some type of African), a plane, a train, and a bus, with another bus coming up. Right now I'm across the aisle from one of the largest human beings I've seen in a long time. He goes about 6-3 and has to weigh at least 350, and doesn't look fat. If he's not here for a tryout with the Broncos, I'm going to sign him for the Chiefs. Dude is huge, I'm telling you.

DaFace and I made one little mistake on our New York trip. We...um....we went to the wrong airport. We flew into Laguardia and kind of assumed we would fly out of Laguardia. But Orbitz put us on an outbound flight from Kennedy, and we didn't notice until we were trying to check in Laguardia. I hate when that happens.

Nice! I looked it up, and the 7-day average flight time was right at 3:45. I have absolutely no clue why it was scheduled to be a 5-hour flight.
