Ocho Cinco is changing his name again to Ocho Cinco...but just in Japanese.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Johnson-Ochocinco-quot-Hachi-Go-quot-Chad-p?urn=nfl,207862

According to someone who watches his broadcasts at UStream -- which I might do someday if my television is stolen, there are no books left in the world, the rest of the internet dies and a sniper is perched outside ready to kill me the second I leave my home -- Chad Ochocinco plans on changing his name again.

He made the announcement on Sunday morning before the game against the Lions. This time, the new name will be "Hachi Go," which is Japanese for "Eight Five." From Glenn S. Moore at The Dugout Sports Show:

"I'm not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it," Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why "Hachi Go"?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco(notes) is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to "Hachi Go".

"Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to 'Hachi Go'."

Well, by all means, if someone suggested it, you should do it. Can I be in line next? The season after "Hachi Go," I think you should be "Chad Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia." It would mean "Chad Fear of Long Words," but really, I just want to see how it looks on a jersey.

Do whatever makes you happy, man. Perhaps someday, you will get an amount of attention that you believe is enough.

Hachi Go is 8 5 in Japanese....not 85. The dude needs to figure out his languages.

That's how he wants it. Ocho Cinco is the same thing 8 5

Yeah, and Ocho Cinco is 8-5 in spanish, not 85.

If NFL Films has taught me anything, it's that football players call someone by their number in the 8-5 form as well as the 85 form.

"Great play, eight-five!"

"Great play, eighty-five!"

Surely you've played football at some level, or baseball or something.

For whatever reason, coach-speak is almost always 'eight five' insteady of 'eighty five'.

I catch myself doing it all the time when I'm yelling at some dipshit (generally something along the line of - "Come the !@#$ on three zero, could you at least pretend to be bipedal instead of the broke-dick loser you truly are!?"

I know it's Mike Brown that is busy stealing my soul....again. But using his given name provides him more basic human dignity than I am inclined to extend.

Our coach always refered to the actual number sequence....eighty-five....not eight five.

Must've been a Harvard man. That's pretty damn sophisticated for a football coach.

I always assumed they lost count somewhere around 17, hence the malaprop.

If it makes Japanese fans happy, then it's a good thing. I mean, look at what they've given us [NSFFP]:

Mmm...I remember those yummy lotus-blossoms from the last time you posted them.

He should just use Japanese alphabet characters on his jersey to spell, "Fuck EEUuuuuuuuuu Dolphin"!

Yup.

I sucked pretty hardcore at football. All I'd know about how football coaches say it is how they say it when you screw something up - most frequently "C'mon eight three, you've gotta bring that in" or "c'mon two oh, eight three runs a 5 second 40 and got behind you..." I can't say that I'd know if football coaches use it to commend you.

I was pretty good at baseball though, I can vouch for guys on the field using it amongst themselves ("one two has the pivot") and coaches actually saying it like that when you do something well.
