The tsunami.

Hopefully no one you knew was washed away.

I'm watching some TV show about it, and it would've been pretty scary. They're interviewing people who were there, and one couple was scuba diving when it hit. They said they were getting bounced around all over the place and had no idea what was going on. They surfaced and headed back, and all the hotels were gone, and then they said they started seeing bodies on the beach. They ended up finding their dead 15 year old daughter by seeing a picture of her body on a bulletin board, and were being filmed when they found her.

Another couple said one minute they were running, and then got caught and eventually ended up out at sea. She had a crushed pelvis and couldn't move her legs, and he had a broken clavicle and couldn't use his arms. They were all like, "What in the world was that?" trying to stay afloat and then a rescue boat came and picked them up.

Another couple got caught in their hotel, and their five year old daughter was pulled from the mother's arms and was never found.

Pretty impressive operation by the Thais in that situation when there were so many deaths. Probably the Indonesians too, but this show is focusing more on tourists in Thaliand and Sri Lanka.

Wow. They just said 167,000 Indonesians died. Hard to imagine. Quarter-million people in total.

I lost C.E. Wendler that day. Such promise. Such potential. So sad.

I remember that like it was yesterday. The Patriots bounced back from a stunning MNF loss to Miami to crush the Jets at the Meadowlands on their way to the Super Bowl.

I went to Kadena AFB in Okinawa right after. Planes to the Far East were full of people going to identify/look for family members. Kadena was on a heightened threat level, I couldn't go anywhere on the base without an armed escort. Ended up with some kid that expected me to buy him lunch or dinner everywhere we went. He reminded me of my little brother.
