Nothing's ever easy, but if you can START your off-season with bringing in two of the best guys available at their respective jobs... You've got one hell of a start.

It won't end here. We all know that. Progress is progress.

Good players beat good coaches. If this GM drafts and signs free agents like he did last year these cordinators won't mean shit. I said it in the thread I made when the Chiefs lost to Cleveland the Hunts would do something like this. Until the Chiefs draft good this will be a medicore franchise.

I think we all know that though Billay, but it's hard to argue that Crennel joining this franchise isn't good news.

We aren't in a position, today, to upgrade the talent. Wait 2 months then let's circle up again to discuss how that part of the rebuilding is going.

True, but also, hiring good coaches is a step in the right direction for this franchise. I believe good coaches help in the recruitment and development of good players.

We talk about the Chiefs sucking at drafting, and you won't have any argument from me in that regard, but its also about player development too. Don't forget that. How much have the Chiefs sucked over the years in developing players? And when have the Chiefs had good co-ordinators on both sides of the ball? It's been a while..Is this a coincedence? I think not.

You have to have talent, but you also have to develop that talent and that is where these coordinators should be a asset to a team as young as us.

I realize this is from a tabloid Newspaper (NY Post), but FWIW:

Giants' candidate Crennel joins Chiefs

6:28 PM, January 11, 2010 ι By PAUL SCHWARTZ

One-time Giants assistant and former Browns head coach Romeo Crennel will not be the new Giants defensive coordinator. Crennel has been hired to run the Chiefs defense.

Crenell never interviewed with Tom Coughlin but the Giants did express some interest.

One candidate Coughlin has already interviewed, former Bills head coach Perry Fewell, was in Chicago to speak with head coach Lovie Smith about the Bears defensive coordinator job. Fewell is considered the front-runner.

Fewell, once Coughlin's defensive backs coach with the Jaguars, met last Thursday with Coughlin with the understanding he was in the running for the Bears defensive coordinator job. Fewell worked in St. Louis and Chicago for Smith and it appears the two will work together again.

Another interesting possibility: Mike Zimmer. His contract will soon expire with the Bengals. Zimmer successfully ran the defenses for the Cowboys and Falcons and did a solid job this season in Cincinnati. Zimmer may attract some interest around the league as a potential head-coaching candidate.

Tom Cable is expected to be fired as head coach of the Raiders and if he is, Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride is again likely to get an interview. Gilbride last year interviewed for the job.
