I'm used to it, living out in the sticks. Mine was down all day Sunday. Keep warm!

My generator is one of my best friends these days.

What exactly do you do in order to prepare? You make it sound like it's kind of an ordeal every time it snows...

I make sure my car is full of gas, I have enough groceries to last me beyond a few days (I don't keep a lot of food in my apartment), and I have a ride lined up for work. This is the first year of a real winter in my car (rear wheel drive). I can barely get across my parking lot when it snows, let alone get anywhere. I love my car, but I NEVER had that problem in a front wheel drive.

Huh... have you tried putting some weight back there, like sandbags?

Or maybe not driving like a woman?

Seriously though, it's surprising that car would strand you in a little snow, even if it is rear wheel drive (which I'm sure you've thought, too).

Have you ever driven a RWD vehicle in the snow? Hell I got stuck in my own driveway (which, if you recall, is perfectly level) with my truck. It's worthless.

I've never owned one, but have driven and ridden in them in the snow, and it wasn't awful... but I guess if the plows ignore her neighborhood like KCK has ignored mine this year, I'd probably not bother with it either. The roads are usually fine in KC a day after it snows (with the exception of Christmas Day this winter, and a few other days here and there... well, and my neighborhood :banghead: ), so I'd never think about being snowed in for more than a night, even if I had RWD.

That holds true for the main roads here. After a day, they're usually good. It's getting from my apartment to the main road, though.

I may still hitch a ride to work tomorrow. It's supposed to snow all day (if it ever gets here). I'd have to go up a large hill to get home. I'd rather not have to worry about it.

I hate this. I never minded snow in my FWD. I was usually one of a few people that would make it in to work the morning after a good snow.

Oh, within a day I'd be able to get where I needed to go in my truck, but I wouldn't want to be driving it during a snowstorm. Luckily it's a secondary vehicle for me so it's not much of an issue.

Time to go trade that thing in for a nice Ford Escort, best car I ever had for driving in the snow.

It's a different place up here this week... last week there were clouds and snow. This week there are lanes where there used to be snow, grass where there used to be snow (even though there's still large piles of snow), and this big ball of light in the sky (even though it's 4 degrees out). Oh, and pot holes.

Oh christ, the pot holes are everywhere, Kabul probably has nicer streets than we do now. But it's the trade-off of the snow melting, so I'll deal with it.

I could afford them. Had the Contour for forever.

I loved taking my Lexus in to get the oil changed for the first time.

"And you have to Contour?"
"Nope. I upgraded."
"And what do you have now?"
"A Lexus."
"Yep. That's definitely an upgrade."

I've been driving the same vehicle model since 1996. Hopefully someday I'll be able to upgrade too. :(
