View Full Version : KSU "Octagon of Doom"

hawkchief

I know yesterday's game was great, and there's been a lot of nice sportsmanship on here, but I have a simple question.

How is an arena where the home team has lost 26 out of 27 games (96%) since it was opened, to its in-state/arch rival, referred to as the "Octagon of Doom"? Patently absurd.

I've decided that henceforth, I will refer to Arrowhead Stadium as "Trezelle's Oval of Annihilation" - makes just as much sense.

The name came from KSUFans.com and a poster on that site. You gotta know the tone of the site. It's very sarcastic in nature there. Kinda like here. So the nickname for the arena was created in that tone too. We are all having fun with it.

The nickname just stuck recently when Doug Gottleib started referencing it on ESPN.

It's funny how people generalize a group of fans based on what they see on message boards. Do you also hangout in nurseries and complain about all the crying and lack of intelligent conversation?

Yeah, success produces arrogant asshole fans, and KU has quite a bit of both; stop crying about it.

There are some knowledgeable fans online, but they're normally drowned out by the garbage... and it's usually the same recycled garbage over and over... and over. He's not ready to be a HC at this level, IMO. He is 30 years old. He's learning the coaching gig, and needs a few years in a system before he gets his shot. That said, he's a hell of a recruiter, but then again, so is Frank.

The KSU admin gets no credit from me. They ****ed up the Wooldrige hire. They ****ed up the Wooly firing, by having the Weef overrule Weiser giving Wooly another year. This allowed them to hire Huggs, which allowed them to look completely foolish when he left.

They only made the Martin hire because they had no other choice. He has paid off in spades. And the only real truth I can believe in is that the admin will **** it up and Frank will go, so the new AD can hire some SLTH @ 600k per that will give KSU 5 years of finishing 6th or worse. Solid Long Term Hire. It was a term that turned into a catch phrase when Martin was hired. All the talk of Martin being a "high school coach" and unethical. It's been kind of funny listening to folks give Frank all this pub when he was trashed so badly in the beginning.

It's what the board (here) was clamoring for when Huggs left along with the idiot on 610 at the time, Matt Scott. I think he runs a jerkoff site called the Shiver.

He rambled on and on about Mark Fox being the "Solid Long Term Hire". SOmebody had it posted to a putfile but it's been taken down.

Anyway, that's the short history of the term.

In a way billay, the KSU admins fell out of tree and landed on their feet. By hanging on to Wooly that extra year, Huggins became available and they scooped him up, much to the chagrin of people on this board and in the media. But then another great term was coined: GRCOAT.

Just for fun, anyone know the championship count between the big four of college basketball, UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas? I mean, UCLA won like 9 out of 10 years in a row. Kansas? Once every twenty or more years.

Considering KU is one of six teams to win 3 or more, I don't see "once every 20 years" being a huge deal... if you weren't alive or old enough to witness UCLA's titles between the mid-60s and mid-70s, you've only seen one since. Hell, in my lifetime, UCLA has 1, Kentucky has 2, Kansas has 2, and UNC & Duke have 3 each.... damn, sucks to be a Jayhawk.
