CHIEFS ANNOUNCE MULTI-YEAR RADIO PARTNERSHIP WITH 101 THE FOX (KCFX-FM) SPORTS RADIO 810 (WHB-AM)
Feb 03, 2010, 4:10:01 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have extended a multi-year radio partnership with 101 The Fox (KCFX-FM) on Wednesday. For the 21st consecutive season, 101 The Fox will proudly serve as the flagship station of the Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network in 2010.

In addition, the Chiefs announced a groundbreaking new radio partnership with Sports Radio 810 (WHB-AM). Sports Radio 810 has secured exclusive rights to other Chiefs programming, including the second hour of the official Chiefs postgame show, live press conferences, Chiefs shows and more.

This innovative new agreement between the Chiefs, 101 The Fox and Sports Radio 810 will give Chiefs fans more coverage of Kansas City’s hometown team than ever before. With more exclusive interviews, expanded programming and some of the most authoritative analysis in the league over the course of the entire game week, Chiefs fans will enjoy wall-to-wall radio coverage on both the FM and AM frequencies for years to come.

“The opportunity to partner with two of the strongest media companies in the region makes this an exciting day for our organization and more importantly our fans,” said Chiefs COO Mark Donovan. “We look forward to working with KCFX and WHB to create year-round Chiefs programming and continuing to deliver award-winning game day coverage.”

“It’s an exciting time to be a Chiefs fan,” added Donna Baker, Market Manager – Cumulus Kansas City. “This new deal extends the tradition that 101 The Fox and the Chiefs have built as one of the longest-running broadcast partnerships in the NFL. We’re proud to be an integral part of the dawn of a new era in Chiefs football. We look forward to continued success with our sponsors and working with our partners for years to come. KCFX offers a special welcome to our friends at Sports Radio 810 WHB. Chiefs fans are sure to enjoy this new and exciting coverage from both legendary Kansas City radio stations.”

Anchoring one of the largest radio networks in the National Football League, KCFX will broadcast all Chiefs preseason, regular season and postseason games to affiliates throughout a seven-state region once again in 2010. One of the NFL’s most respected broadcast tandems – “Voice of the Chiefs” Mitch Holthus and Hall of Fame QB Len Dawson – will call the action together for a 17th consecutive season on the Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network. “The team that knows your Chiefs the best” will continue to air one of the league’s finest pregame shows, followed by one-hour of postgame interviews and analysis.

Sports Radio 810 becomes the official AM radio partner of the Chiefs, and will own exclusive live radio broadcast rights to the Chiefs weekly in-season press conferences with Head Coach Todd Haley and the club’s starting quarterback. The “Chiefs Kingdom” radio show on Monday nights from 7:00-8:00 PM will now be broadcast live by Sports Radio 810, and will also be available to participating stations on the Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network. This raucous hour-long event hosted by Holthus features a live call-in from Coach Haley, a different player guest every week, as well as a loyal following of Kansas City “Super Fans,” who religiously attend the broadcast.

“The Chiefs are one of the biggest and most important franchises in the entire country,” indicated Chad Boeger, President of Union Broadcasting, the parent company of Sports Radio 810 WHB. “We are extremely excited to become an official radio partner of the Chiefs. We look forward to adding quality Chiefs programming to our lineup, while maintaining our position as Kansas City’s most immediate source for breaking sports news and commentary. We believe this partnership will be great for the Chiefs, Sports Radio 810 WHB and most importantly, the listeners and fans of our station.”

WHB also secures the rights to broadcast a weekly “Chiefs Player Show” from team headquarters at One Arrowhead Drive. Hosted by on-air talent from Sports Radio 810 and various key members of the Kansas City roster, this program will be an exciting new part of the Chiefs broadcast schedule. In addition, “Chiefs Mondays” and “Chiefs Red Fridays” will become a regular part of the programming landscape at Sports Radio 810, with those days becoming heavily focused on Chiefs football.

Throughout the course of game weeks, Chiefs players will be featured on regularly-scheduled WHB programming, hosted by Sports Radio 810’s cast of informed and opinionated on-air personalities. In addition, WHB will broadcast live during weekdays from Chiefs training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri

This is only good for business. I had a hard time understanding how it was a positive for Chiefs fans. Congrats to everyone involved. Say whatever you want about KK, but this guy is passionate about the business. You don't have to be a fan of him to understand that. KCTV5 and Metro Sports split ways and 810 eventually made a deal with KCTV5. Now 810 and 101 have made a deal.

Nothing fan worthy. They really did a good job hyping this up, especially when Mitch Holthus said, "this is a historic day" .. "another move forward." etc. Once again, congrats to everyone involved. But I was disappointed that they made everyone listen to an announcement involving a deal about the two stations. It explains why 810 is currently broadcasting from Arrowhead Stadium.

It appears this is another step in Clark's attempts to undo Dictator Carl's Iron Curtain-era PR strategy.

Rufus Dawes being burnt at the stake, Bob Moore being demoted to "Team Historian" (very ironic for a franchise with not much successful history to speak of during the last 40 years) and now the Chiefs trying to make nice with the #1 sports radio channel (based on # of listeners) in the KC market
