View Full Version : Prayer Request Its So Hard To Say Goodbye (LT says he wont be a Charger anymore)

LT says his Chargers days are over

LaDainian Tomlinson acknowledges what many NFL observers have been speculating, that it's virtually certain he is done as a San Diego Charger.

"I'm not coming back," Tomlinson told the San Diego Union-Tribune in a phone interview. "I don't believe I'll be back in San Diego. I've accepted it."

Tomlinson has two years remaining on his contract, but he is due a $2 million roster bonus March 5 and he would be paid $5 million in total salary in 2010 if San Diego kept him.

This season LT rushed for 730 yards on 222 carries. From 2001 through 2007 he never had fewer than 1,200 yards in a season.

"I've been praying and meditating," he told the Union-Tribune. "After doing that for a couple weeks, I just felt like it was over."

Speaking by phone, Tomlinson paused a lot as he spoke of his future and of his past.

“It’s a mixed feeling,” said Tomlinson, the league MVP in 2006. “It’s mixed emotions. I’ve spent nine years of my life here, pretty much my youth. I gave the organization everything I have. I enjoyed the community.

“But there is a part I won’t miss. The football part is fun. But the business part sucks. I won’t miss that.”

Tomlinson said he doesn’t know when the Chargers will release him. He said his agent might call the club to expedite the process.

As long as I've been a die hard fan, we've had LT. We drafted him my freshman year of high school.

Sometimes you take it for granted when you have a player of his caliber. I'm about 99% sure the Chargers will never have another RB who puts up LT numbers ever again.

I can appreciate your fandom, and respect it.

From a player's perspective, to see a guy that was nothing less than an "organization first" guy throughout, and given the temporary salary freedoms, that does not seem right...

I agree. I've actually had dinner with LT. Dude is a great guy, great to his community and is a model Football player. He is the face of the Franchise. This city is going to have a meltdown. He should retire a Charger...but...ya know how it is...just doesn't happen anymore.

How can you say "This" about them getting rid of Brees and turn around and say "LT is pissed that SD is now a pass oriented football team"
If Brees played half way decent in 2003, Rivers woulden't even be in the coversation. Brees would have made the Chargers a passing team much earlier.:shake:
It's time the Chargers and LT move on.
IMO, LT still has some left in the tank (he nearly broke 3 runs this season), but this break is for the best.

Personally I don't want him anywhere near my colors, but given his loyalty to that organization I would expect them to do the decent thing and give him one "Priest" year; especially given the temporary ballooned salary cap.

There's no real reason for any team to pick him up either. He was one of the worst RBs in the league last year. There's no point in having a third string RB that has no upside and can't play special teams.

Eh, not that way I remember it. In the four years prior to LT being drafted the Chargers offensive rankings were 26th, 29th, 28th, 26th. Three last place finishes those seasons. After drafting him, the offensive rankings were: 14th, 20th, 16th, 3rd, 5th, 1st. Drew Brees as a Charger really wasn't/isn't the same Brees we're seeing now with New Orleans.

The Chargers FB, Tolbert, is a Marion Butts clone.
Since you probably don't who either of them are... They're punishing 230lb bruisers. Butts was a 1000 yd runner in the 90’s and Tolbert's a 230lber who and had a 5.9 ypc avg. last year.
