8:41 AM NST Friday 05 February 2010
Blizzard warning for
St. John's and vicinity continued

An intense low pressure system east of the Grand Banks will spread strong northerly winds and snow to most of Newfoundland today and tonight giving blizzard conditions.

This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Snow at times heavy and blowing snow presently over the Avalon will move westward today and tonight. Total snowfall amounts between 35 and 45 centimetres are forecast for the Northern Avalon Peninsula and east coast. 15 to 25 centimetres can be expected for the Southern Avalon and Burin peninsulas with lesser amounts expected over the remainder of the island. As well strong northerly winds gusting up to 90 km/h are forecast for Eastern Newfoundland and combined with the fresh snow will give blowing snow and blizzard conditions.

ROFL We had 15 inches Friday and 6 more wednesday night. It's been brutal. I was listening to the scanner yesterday and a kid apparently got beat up by some other kids and he was found laying in the snow and died from hypothermia.

Heh, that looks about right. :shake: I am getting sick of this winter fast! Wave after wave of snow showers, non-stop this winter. I don't know whether the ground hog saw his shadow when he came out of his hole the other day, but the way things look, we are in for at least another six weeks of winter regardless. Oh, and either way, the little bastard is catching a .220 Swift round if I see him!

It sounds like there's going to be More snow on the way Sunday........... :spock:

Global warming my ass! About now, Mother Nature can kiss my nuts.

I hate to be petty, but "global warming" is just an all-encompassing term that refers to climate change caused by humans. It's really a misnomer.

What's the forecast for the game?

Sunny, high in the upper 60s, low in the mid-50's. In other words... perfect.

That ground hog needs a stick of dynamite up his wazzoo! I'm sick of it too.

The bad part is that the mountains (Crazies, Castles, Little Belts) aren't getting much snow pack. It's not good snow we're getting, it's annoying snow.

We're due for about 12 inches here too and you would think the world is coming to end.

We go through this every year and every year people go out and clean the shelves off the grocery stores even though there isn't going to be one minute from the start of the storm until the end where you're actually going to be shut in.

People are crazy.

Here's a story I knew you could appreciate Bwana. Punatawny Phil is a groundhog they pull out once a year in western PA for a celebration to break up winter.

Suh-weet!
I’ve got one of my Dad’s rifles in my gun locker that is a Savage Model 110 .30-06 with a floating stock very similar to that one.
That rifle makes obscenely long shots so ridiculously easy it almost feels like cheating. Almost. It’s such a fine piece I don’t break it out for much more than showing off at the range.

Actually this winter hasn't been bad at all. A welcome change after 2 very long and brutal winters the past 2 years. Thank goodness, snowblower lost a bearing and bent the main power shaft - damn Tecumseh engines, can't get the part either, to old.

They are talking 9 inches of this shit on Sunday evening here. Not looking forward to the drive home from work Sunday night. I wonder if my boss would arrange safe transportation for me.

I'm living under a State of Emergency! No non-essential personnel permitted on the roads after 10pm, though I just got home (from Walmart, which closed at 9 to the amazement of many) at 10:25. I guess I broke some kinda law.

Expecting two feet of snow on the ground by tomorrow afternoon...
