View Full Version : Football I gotta tell you a story

What Im about to say is expressed with truth and sincerity. No words of a lie here.

I started watching football about 17 years ago. 1993 to be exact. It was the same year Joe Montana was traded to the Chiefs when they lost in the AFC championship game to the Buffalo Bills.

I had no clue about football whatsoever. Zero knowledge about it. Didn't know the rules of the game, couldn't understand the concepts as to why a bunch of men would clash and demolish each other. Didn't know the history of the league or teams. Absolutely nothing. All I ever knew at that time was that I had a bunch of friends that loved the game and told me it was the greatest sport on the planet. I approached this thing with an open mind and I decided to learn about football. I got a good understanding of the game, learned the rules, etc.

I had create a purpose as to why I wanted to watch the game, not only because it was exciting, but to pick a team to root for. All my friends were cheering for certain teams like the Vikings, Dolphins, Broncos, Steelers, etc...I followed what they were doing, just pick a team because......well, why cheer for them? So, it was a toss up for me between the Chiefs and the guess who? The SAINTS! Yup...thats right! No joke.

And, I picked the Chiefs. I failed to follow up on them, didn't know much about their history, I cheered for them when they were playing the Houston Oilers back in the '93 playoffs. I was rooting for the underdog, everybody was pimping Houston and not gving the Chiefs a chance that year. So I rooted for them because I like the underdog and decided to pick a successful team that was good at that time plus they had a good quarterback that was well known(Joe Montana was a big reason why I started following the Chiefs and why I should pick them as a team to cheer for, not only because of his reputation, it was the way he mastered the position which made him fun and exciting to watch. A good reason to root for a team that had a player of that caliber to give you your share and quality of entertainment as a fan. Hey, I figured that reason was good enough for me), they also had a good running back that was well known, and I absolutely loved Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith. Loved the way those guys played defense. They were a well respected team at the time with a good coach and they had me sold to the point where I thought they played so well against Houston and were going to be in the Superbowl that year. Not win it because i was aware of how good the Cowboys were. But don't get me wrong, if the Chiefs were competing in the Superbowl that year, Id be cheering right there with them and wouldn't think for a split second. Again, I love the underdog. They create more entertainment for professional sports.

Okay this is going to sound really really dumb. Please forgive me. I had the Saints in mind, why? Because I LOVED their uniforms...lol I loved the black and gold colours. I was going to pick them, but I don't know what triggered my decision so quickly, so I picked the chiefs instead. From '93 to about as recent as 3 years ago I thought to myself, man, that was a good decision I made. Thank goodness I didn't become a Saints fan they're a joke.

But here I am now, and I really don't know what to think or say? lol...Is this a decision that worked best for short term and not long term? I don't know? All I know is, if I decided to be a Saints fan, Id be cheering and partying it up in New Orleans right now. Maybe, hopefully, the Chiefs could be their someday and my decision wouldn't look as bad.

It happens ALL the time! Thats CP....I know it is, everyone knows it is...Thats just the way it is!

Maybe thats the beauty of CP? The fact that we can talk about anything we want and nobody can take that away from us? Freedom of speech. Heck, this is America after all!

Redthat,

A word of unsolicited advice: When you're seriously into the drinking, limit your posts to one to two sentences, max. When you type out a marathon screed, as we all do from time to time, you'll want to have a thoughtful, sober review before you hit that "Submit Reply" button.

Again, I know you didn't ask; just thought I'd offer up. Works out well for me, anyway...

What I'm about to say is completely true, no portion of the following statement is untrue.

A couple of weeks ago, I was playing poker at a casino and went to use the Men's room. On the way in, I walked a few steps behind a man who was probably in his 60s, puffing on a cigar, in a pimped out white track suit with a matching cabbie hat, walking at about half the speed of cold syrup.

Keeping my distance the required steps away, desiring only to get to a urinal with at least 1 open space between the next user, it happend.

A good 5-6 steps before the "right turn" into the urinal parking space, this fellow grabs the band of his drawers and drops them to his knees, and they fall to his ankles 2-3 shuffles before his turn....

My head snaps back like JFK's in surprise as I'm unable to go wide left due to the bank of hand washers, I pick up the speed and pass and complete my trip to the far left urinal.

I've never witnessed anyone over the age of 5 tinkle with their drawers around their feet. I think I was more shocked than the time I saw a guy with a 6" sub sammich' in his mouth while he stood at the urinal.

Have you ever noticed how much sweeter french toast tastes after you take a huge swig of sour orange juice?

Right now we're chugging a bottle of Tropicana (with the pulp added). One of these days we'll be able to partake a huge serving french toast (Texas Toast, style) with powdered sugar. The difference will be so sweet it will be worth it all.
