We've had the warmest winter on record here in Seattle. I don't think temps have dropped into freezing more than once on the overnight lows.

I don't know if global warming is real or not, but I do remember that everyone who's been talking about it predicted that these record winter storms would happen about 5 years ago.

No one really knows. I have also heard that it would be a short-term warm-up followed by a cooling trend because the pollutants also reflect a lot of the sun's heat back into space.

So, I'm not trying to say the world is warming...

I'm not trying to say that if it is warming it's caused by humans...

but if the world were warming... you wouldn't just see less cold weather.

You'd have to be a special kind of moron to believe that's what global warming means. What you would see, is changes from the normal weather patterns.

Some places would get colder, others warmer. Some places would get additional humidity and precipitation. Some would become much drier. Year to year the changes would be small, but over the course of several decades you might see some pretty big changes. Eventually you might see vast changes, such as the Midwestern plain states turning to deserts. The end of evergreen forests in places like Colorado. Weather in the UK might eventually resemble Greenland.

Wow, good luck with the marlin fishing! We go down to Cabo at least once a year and I've never been swordfish or marlin fishing and it's supposed to be one of the best places in the world for that. One of these days...

The Pacific red snapper are a fun fish and taste great. I've fished for barracuda as well and you can even eat the Pacific variety (the Atlantic species are poisonous).

I'm sure you're going to have a great week!

A local Pakistan newspaper revealed the truth about all of this weather business.

They said the United States shot a microwave beam into the sky. It punched a hole in the atmosphere which allowed the hot air to escape. So the evil Americans can be blamed for bad weather in addition to any other inconvenience the rest of the word must suffer.

If GW is real why:
is Greenland growing colder.
polar icecaps growing
polar bear populations growing
here in SW FL we had snow flurries for the first time in 20+ years.

In the early 1970's they said we headed to the next ice age?????

Those ****ers can't tell you what the temp or weather will be next week and some of you believe the HALF of the scientist that say the earth is getting warmer?

Why not believe the OTHER HALF that say their studies show gw to be bogus?

GW is a hoax, and it's going to be a costly one.

Manatee's are dying and massive fish kills due to the cold weather. Snook die in water under 60 degrees. They shut down the Snook,Tarpon and Bonefish fishing for the year. The rivers smell of death from all the dead fish on the shorelines.

Are we in a Maunder minimum, i.e. the sun is cooler indicated by a decrease in sunspot activity? If so, consider this - we go through a cool period, then when the sun returns to normal and everything heats back up again, we really fry.

Probably because people like you expect it to be warmer where they live when they hear "Global Warming". Global Warming talks about fractions of a degree changes on a yearly basis (especially in seawater) which change the climate and EVENTUALLY will lead to unpleasant weather pattern changes.

This argument is too tired, though.

People like me? I took courses on this in college, and even then nobody was for sure what exactly was going on. It's not a 100% thing, that's science. The point is to try and see if anything should and/or can be done in case some theories are true. Or we could just not give a shit and proceed at our current rates, we won't be the ones suffering anyway if the shit hits the fan.

The 100% truth of the matter is that the Greenhouse Effect is real and we ARE contributing to it. Whether it's enough to change anything is another issue. I just think it's more prudent to be careful, that's all.

Who says that they aren't? They have been retreating since the last mini ice age that ended in 1850, except for a 30 year period between 1950-1980 where we were on a cooling trend. Which is of course helps to make it look bad, because we didn't bother to care much until after 1950. We're doing our part to fight global warming.

I turn on the air conditioner and leave the windows open.

Tell me you didn't notice it being pretty cold last night. See? I think it's working.

Geez, no wonder I was freezing my ass off last night. Would you mind keeping that window closed until spring at least?
