Good Lord....really?? Did this really happen in this day and age?? Incredible...

http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-compton-cookout,0,2673438.story

SAN DIEGO -- Officials at UC San Diego are condemning a ghetto-themed party organized by fraternity students to mock Black History Month.

A Facebook posting advertising Monday's 'Compton Cookout' invited people to a condominium complex off-campus.

The invitation urged all participants to wear chains, rapper-style urban clothing by makers such as FUBU and speak very loudly.

Female participants were encouraged to be "ghetto chicks" with gold teeth, cheap clothes and "short, nappy hair."

The invitation said the party would serve watermelon, chicken, malt liquor, cheap beer and a purple sugar-water concoction called "dat Purple Drank."

The party was organized by members of several UCSD fraternities, according to an e-mail from Gary Ratcliff, assistant vice chancellor for student life.

UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox called the party, "offensive" and a "blatant disregard of our campus values."

"We reject acts of discrimination ... and we will confront and appropriately respond to such acts," Fox said.

Read The Invitation To The "Compton Cook Out," As Posted On Facebook:

"February marks a very important month in American society. No, i'm not referring to Valentines day or Presidents day. I'm talking about Black History month. As a time to celebrate and in hopes of showing respect, the Regents community cordially invites you to its very first Compton Cookout.

For guys: I expect all males to be rockin Jersey's, stuntin' up in ya White T (XXXL smallest size acceptable), anything FUBU, Ecko, Rockawear, High/low top Jordans or Dunks, Chains, Jorts, stunner shades, 59 50 hats, Tats, etc.

For girls: For those of you who are unfamiliar with ghetto chicks-Ghetto chicks usually have gold teeth, start fights and drama, and wear cheap clothes - they consider Baby Phat to be high class and expensive couture. They also have short, nappy hair, and usually wear cheap weave, usually in bad colors, such as purple or bright red. They look and act similar to Shenaynay, and speak very loudly, while rolling their neck, and waving their finger in your face. Ghetto chicks have a very limited vocabulary, and attempt to make up for it, by forming new words, such as "constipulated", or simply cursing persistently, or using other types of vulgarities, and making noises, such as "hmmg!", or smacking their lips, and making other angry noises, grunts, and faces. The objective is for all you lovely ladies to look, act, and essentially take on these "respectable" qualities throughout the day.

Several of the regents condos will be teaming up to house this monstrosity, so travel house to house and experience the various elements of life in the ghetto.

We will be serving 40's, Kegs of Natty, dat Purple Drank- which consists of sugar, water, and the color purple , chicken, coolade, and of course Watermelon. So come one and come all, make ya self before we break ya self, keep strapped, get yo shine on, and join us for a day party to be remembered- or not. "

I don't know why this would shock anyone... people (especially young people) are stupid and think they're being funny.

I see no problem with it. Except maybe the one that some folks will show up dressed very similar to how the invitation reads.... and shoot up the place.

Right. I guess it's OK to "exploit" stereotypes of ancient greeks, 70's disco partiers (or parties riffing on any generational fad), or bikers and biker chicks, but as soon as you throw fried chicken, watermelon, Rockawear and presumably an urban music soundtrack together, it makes you a racist.

Seems like this story is out every year.

I don't see the fraternity's name. It says "members of several fraternities". This just sounds like an off-campus party.

I guess if it was their way of showing respect for Black History month, as they say it is, you would have a valid point. I am not convinced that this is showing respect for that at all and is in fact more of a caricature on their part.

Yes, it's offensive. Then again, so is Black History Month. I can't seem to find White History Month on my calendar, I must've missed it. Maybe I should call the NAAWP and find out if they know when it is.

Yes, it's a stereotype. Then again, a lot of young kids act and dress just like they're making fun of. If you don't want to be ridiculed, try not to live up to the stereotype. I'm Italian, but I don't wear a wife beater with a big gold chain and a crucifix or Jesus head on it and drive a Camaro and say "yo" and "fuhgeddaboudit". If I did, I would expect to be ridiculed.

Racism, sexism, and stereotypes are only funny humor when they don't touch on you or people like you. That's the way it's been. That's the way it's always been. The world won't stop turning because of it any time soon.

I dont think it necessarily matters to people that there isn't one(white history month). But what's black history month for anyways? Why is it only one month? Why isn't there an Italian/Mexican/Chinese history month and so on. At least that's what I think he's kinda getting at.

Glancing at their profile breakdown on their site it seems as though there are a whole ton Asians...like 41% with 1% of their student population being african american.

That wasn't the point I was trying to make. As long as we make race an issue it will be one is a theory I buy into but that I really don't care about because birds of a feather will flock together and make fun of others no matter what. Exclusive is a human trait that isn't going anywhere.

exactly, I think people have become too racially sensitive. I also agree with the "stupid kids think they're being funny" post. But seriously, kids in college now days grew up in a complete different america than every generation before them. Its got to be getting close to the time where we stop appologizing for mistakes long past.

Besides, how was it discrimination - did they specifically say only white kids could come dressed up as ghetto trash?

I think the black community is more widespread in the country. I hear about Hispanic Heritage month every year because where I live, the majority of people are hispanic.

And not to delve too much into this, but black people as a race have had to overcome the worst shit (racially) that has ever happened in this country.

I think its safe to say that is even more reason to see that kneejerk argument as shallow. You guys don't ACTUALLY care it is just a talking point.

I think his point was that no one really celebrates or gives a rat's ass about "Jewish-Italian Grandmother Week" or "Hispanic-Irish Heritage Weekend". Those things a.) aren't paid attention to, and b.) were probably only created in response to Black History Month.

This isn't 1976. There's no more forced busing. Affirmative action has done it's job, and then some. Why is Black History Month so prominent?

America is a melting pot, yet only when it's convenient. So many ethnicities, religions, and lifestyles only want to "melt" when it's convenient. I'm tired of Black History Month. I'm tired of illegal immigrants protesting for their "rights" while being supported by people from their country, who are here legally, yet waving flags OF THEIR COUNTRY, not America's. I'm tired of everyone acting like it's my fault that the Natives lost their land and the blacks were enslaved. I didn't pilot the f**king ships. (In fact, the history of slavery in Africa also involves Africans enslaving Africans, for hundreds of years, but it's easier to blame it all on Whitey.) I'm tired of entire swaths of America acting put-upon. You know what? WE'RE ALL put-upon. We all have to deal with it. It's called bigotry, and it's not going away. Black, white, gay, Jewish, Asian, Mexican, female, fat, short, bald, thick-glasses-wearing, I don't care what it is... we all have a cross to bear. Where's my "Fat White Guy With Thick Glasses" Month, huh?!? HUH!?!? :cuss:

And maybe the point should be that the young hip-hop "ghetto kids" they're making fun of probably could give less of a shit about Black History Month. They're too busy calling each other the n-word and pissing off Bill Cosby. :D

Just remember, kids, as the puppets in "Avenue Q" sang...

Princeton:
Oh, well, I'm sorry! I was just asking!

Kate Monster:
Well, it's a touchy subject.
No, not all Monsters are related.
What are you trying say, huh?
That we all look the same to you?
Huh, huh, huh?

Princeton:
No, no, no, not at all. I'm sorry,
I guess that was a little racist.

Kate Monster:
I should say so. You should be much more
careful when you're talking about the
sensitive subject of race.

Princeton:
Well, look who's talking!

Kate Monster:
What do you mean?

Princeton:
What about that special Monster School you told me about?

Kate Monster:

Kate Monster:
Admitting it is not an easy thing to do...

Princeton:
But I guess it's true.

Kate Monster:
Between me and you,
I think

Both:
Everyone's a little bit racist
Sometimes.
Doesn't mean we go
Around committing hate crimes.
Look around and you will find
No one's really color blind.
Maybe it's a fact
We all should face
Everyone makes judgments
Based on race.

Princeton:
Now not big judgments, like who to hire
or who to buy a newspaper from -

Kate Monster:
No!

Princeton:
No, just little judgments like thinking that Mexican
busboys should learn to speak goddamn English!

Kate Monster:
Right!

Both:
Everyone's a little bit racist
Today.
So, everyone's a little bit racist
Okay!
Ethinic jokes might be uncouth,
But you laugh because
They're based on truth.
Don't take them as
Personal attacks.
Everyone enjoys them -
So relax!

Princeton:
All right, stop me if you've heard this one.

Kate Monster:
Okay!

Princeton:
There's a plane going down and there's only
one paracute. And there's a rabbi, a priest...

Kate Monster:
And a black guy!

Gary Coleman:

Kate Monster:

Gary Coleman:
You were telling a black joke!

Princeton:
Well, sure, Gary, but lots of people tell black jokes.

Gary Coleman:
I don't.

Princeton:
Well, of course you don't - you're black!
But I bet you tell Polack jokes, right?

Gary Coleman:
Well, sure I do. Those stupid Polacks!

Princeton:
Now, don't you think that's a little racist?

Gary Coleman:
Well, damn, I guess you're right.

Kate Monster:
You're a little bit racist.

Gary Coleman:
Well, you're a little bit too.

Princeton:
We're all a little bit racist.

Gary Coleman:
I think that I would
Have to agree with you.

Princeton/Kate Monster:
We're glad you do.

Gary Coleman:
It's sad but true!
Everyone's a little bit racist -

All right!

Kate Monster:
All right!

Princeton:
All right!

Gary Coleman:
All right!
Bigotry has never been
Exclusively white

All:
If we all could just admit
That we are racist a little bit,
Even though we all know
That it's wrong,
Maybe it would help us
Get along.

Princeton:
Oh, Christ do I feel good.

Gary Coleman:
Now there was a fine upstanding black man!

Princeton:
Who?

Gary Coleman:
Jesus Christ.

Kate Monster:
But, Gary, Jesus was white.

Gary Coleman:
No, Jesus was black.

Kate Monster:
No, Jesus was white.

Gary Coleman:
No, I'm pretty sure that Jesus was black-

Princeton:
Guys, guys...Jesus was Jewish!

Brian:
Hey guys, what are you laughing about?

Gary Coleman:
Racism!

Brian:
Cool.

Christmas Eve:
BRIAN! Come back here!
You take out lecycuraburs!

Princeton:
What's that mean?

Brian:
Um, recyclables.
Hey, don't laugh at her!
How many languages do you speak?

Kate Monster:
Oh, come off it, Brian!
Everyone's a little bit racist.

Brian:
I'm not!

Princeton:
Oh no?

Brian:
Nope!

How many Oriental wives
Have you got?

Christmas Eve:
What? Brian!

Princeton:
Brian, buddy, where you been?
The term is Asian-American!

Christmas Eve:
I know you are no
Intending to be
But calling me Oriental -
Offensive to me!

Brian:
I'm sorry, honey, I love you.

Christmas Eve:
And I love you.

Brian:
But you're racist, too.

Christmas Eve:
Yes, I know.
The Jews have all
The money
And the whites have all
The power.
And I'm always in taxi-cab
With driver who no shower!

Princeton:
Me too!

Kate Monster:
Me too!

Gary Coleman:
I can't even get a taxi!

All:
Everyone's a little bit racist
It's true.
But everyone is just about
As racist as you!
If we all could just admit
That we are racist a little bit,
And everyone stopped being
So PC
Maybe we could live in -

I think the black community is more widespread in the country. I hear about Hispanic Heritage month every year because where I live, the majority of people are hispanic.

And not to delve too much into this, but black people as a race have had to overcome the worst shit (racially) that has ever happened in this country.

I know, and we won't get away from this topic no matter how we try - but frankly, I'm not personally responsible for any of those racial injustices, yet I'd still be held personally accountable if I even partially crossed the politically correct social line because of those injustices, and I'm just sick and tired of it.

I have never felt that burden. I think it is funny you would feel that way.

---------------------------------

No, not all Monsters are related.
What are you trying say, huh?
That we all look the same to you?
Huh, huh, huh?

Princeton:
No, no, no, not at all. I'm sorry,
I guess that was a little racist.

Kate Monster:
I should say so. You should be much more
careful when you're talking about the
sensitive subject of race.

Princeton:

Kate Monster:
Admitting it is not an easy thing to do...

Princeton:
But I guess it's true.

Kate Monster:
Between me and you,
I think

Both:
Everyone's a little bit racist
Sometimes.
Doesn't mean we go
Around committing hate crimes.
Look around and you will find
No one's really color blind.
Maybe it's a fact
We all should face
Everyone makes judgments
Based on race.

Princeton:
Now not big judgments, like who to hire
or who to buy a newspaper from -

Kate Monster:
No!

Princeton:
No, just little judgments like thinking that Mexican
busboys should learn to speak goddamn English!

Kate Monster:
Right!

Both:
Everyone's a little bit racist
Today.
So, everyone's a little bit racist
Okay!
Ethinic jokes might be uncouth,
But you laugh because
They're based on truth.
Don't take them as
Personal attacks.
Everyone enjoys them -
So relax!

Princeton:
All right, stop me if you've heard this one.

Kate Monster:
Okay!

Gary Coleman:
You were telling a black joke!

Princeton:
Well, sure, Gary, but lots of people tell black jokes.

Gary Coleman:
I don't.

Princeton:
Well, of course you don't - you're black!
But I bet you tell Polack jokes, right?

Gary Coleman:
Well, sure I do. Those stupid Polacks!

Princeton:
Now, don't you think that's a little racist?

Gary Coleman:
Well, damn, I guess you're right.

Kate Monster:
You're a little bit racist.

Gary Coleman:
Well, you're a little bit too.

Princeton:
We're all a little bit racist.

Gary Coleman:
I think that I would
Have to agree with you.

Princeton/Kate Monster:
We're glad you do.

Gary Coleman:
It's sad but true!
Everyone's a little bit racist -

All right!

Kate Monster:
All right!

Princeton:
All right!

Gary Coleman:
All right!
Bigotry has never been
Exclusively white

All:
If we all could just admit
That we are racist a little bit,
Even though we all know
That it's wrong,
Maybe it would help us
Get along.

Princeton:
Oh, Christ do I feel good.

Gary Coleman:
Now there was a fine upstanding black man!

Princeton:
Who?

Gary Coleman:
Jesus Christ.

Kate Monster:
But, Gary, Jesus was white.

Gary Coleman:
No, Jesus was black.

Kate Monster:
No, Jesus was white.

Gary Coleman:
No, I'm pretty sure that Jesus was black-

Princeton:
Guys, guys...Jesus was Jewish!

Brian:
Hey guys, what are you laughing about?

Gary Coleman:
Racism!

Brian:
Cool.

Christmas Eve:
BRIAN! Come back here!
You take out lecycuraburs!

Princeton:
What's that mean?

Brian:
Um, recyclables.
Hey, don't laugh at her!
How many languages do you speak?

Kate Monster:
Oh, come off it, Brian!
Everyone's a little bit racist.

Brian:
I'm not!

Princeton:
Oh no?

Brian:
Nope!

How many Oriental wives
Have you got?

Christmas Eve:
What? Brian!

Princeton:
Brian, buddy, where you been?
The term is Asian-American!

Christmas Eve:
I know you are no
Intending to be
But calling me Oriental -
Offensive to me!

Brian:
I'm sorry, honey, I love you.

Christmas Eve:
And I love you.

Brian:
But you're racist, too.

Christmas Eve:
Yes, I know.
The Jews have all
The money
And the whites have all
The power.
And I'm always in taxi-cab
With driver who no shower!

Princeton:
Me too!

Kate Monster:
Me too!

Gary Coleman:
I can't even get a taxi!

All:
Everyone's a little bit racist
It's true.
But everyone is just about
As racist as you!
If we all could just admit
That we are racist a little bit,
And everyone stopped being
So PC
Maybe we could live in -
Harmony!

first I'm not angry at all, I'm discourage that a stupid college party is getting the attention of news media as "racial discrimination".

Discimination happens everywhere one group (women, asians, white and black) is the group minority, and it seems that most of these incidents make the news because its black discrimination more than the other groups (woman, asians, hispanics, whites, etc). It happens everywhere still today, and it's all very stupid.

I'm a man, and I'll treat you like a man at work, in my home or on the street, you have that initial respect from me regardless of skin color. The actions of that man from there, will decide if you keep my respect or lose it.

Everyone wants to shove it under the rug with "I haven't had slaves" and "I'm not responsible" comments, yet totally ingoring the fact that people of ALL races, genders and orientations get treated unfairly. WRONG! It would stop being an issue if everyone in the world would stop being racist. I don't care if there isn't a soul on this board that is racist, it still exists, like it or not. Everyone wants to shove it under the rug with "I haven't had slaves" and "I'm not responsible" comments, yet totally ingoring the fact that people of ALL races, genders and orientations get treated unfairly. So, as long as there are douche clowns running around heavily discriminating against people then it will ALWAYS be an issue.

Yeah but we as a world are mean to fat and ugly people too.

At some point we will have to decide that people are going to be discriminated against for any number of reasons and just start holding individuals accountable instead of a nation.

So what you're saying is that they're legal immigrants, not yet U.S. citizens, and if they join the U.S. military they get citizenship? That's kinda f**ked up. I mean, first of all, it seems like a nice loophole for terrorists. Second of all, it's kind of like blackmail, and you could also see it as being very mercenary-like (except instead of cash they get citizenship).

Then again, we're also talking about a country (the U.S.) where you can join the military at 17 but can't vote until 18 and can't drink until 21...

There are a bunch of laws covering who is a natural-born citizen. In fact, due to Obama's parentage (his father was not a US citizen), we went over this in DC quite a bit last year.

But, in the case of a child being born overseas to two US citizens, yes, that child is almost always a US citizen (natural-born) at birth, regardless of where.

Two points:

1) I'd almost guarantee that given that this was an off campus party, there were just as many non-Greeks behind it as Greeks. Universities and media joints love to get bent out of shape targeting Greeks as the root of all evil...if there's any way a problem can be linked to or blamed on Greeks, they'll do it.

2) This party is targeting a specific group of black people that are stereotyped as acting in a thuggish manner - that is, the people of Compton. However, I have seen numerous parties targeting a specific group of Italians that are stereotyped as acting in a guido-ish manner (aka Jersey Shore parties) at my college. I don't see a single news report on those or anybody being asked to apologize to Italians everywhere.

No one is claiming that whoever threw the party is being insensitive to Italians, and while I do understand that this party occurred during Black History month, I guarantee you that if/when Jersey Shore parties are being thrown in October (National Italian American Heritage Month), we won't see a single news reports about that.

Here's a little fun trivia: our first ten POTUS weren't really "natural-born" as they were born before our country existed.

Well yeah.

What if you are born in a U.S. Territory like Puerto Rico?

Trickier, but yes, most likely still considered to be natural born. John McCAin, for example, was born in Panama.

My father was born on Vancouver Island to U.S. citizens who were on vacation. He had a dual citizenship for the longest. I always thought they did away with that and he certainly was first class :P US citizen. In a first class US Navy no less. Then he married my mother and I was born in the U.S. Then they got divorced and my mother had to take all her citizenship stuff.

So I guess my question is was she a citizen as the wife of a citizen? Or does that just mean she can hang out?

My wife is a Filipina, she came to the States in '85 on a fiance visa and married her first husband. At that time she was granted permenant resident status.
Two years ago she was finally naturalized, after we had been married for 13 years (I was active Navy). So yes, she was allowed to hang out, but even if we had gotten divorced she would have still been a permenant resident.

Have you seen the movie WHITE CHICKS? It is the one were two of the Wayne brothers dress up like two rich dumb blonde white chicks. The thing is no one made a big deal about it, it was a hit movie!! On the other hand it would be racist for two white guys to dress up as black women and protray stereotype black women!! So is it a stereotype now that whites have a better sense of humor?

They have to be legal to sign up for service. I know you hate to hear that because you're trying to turn this into a thread about illegal immigration.

Beyond that, yes I do. I consider all our servicemen to be heroes because they do a job that I nor you would do.

This reply got me thinking. KC Native, if they are already legal (permanent residents), how does serving in the military help them get citizenship? Does it expedite the process or something? If memory serves, I had to wait seven years between getting my green card and being naturalized (and becoming a citizen).

yup, my kids were born in Germany while I was on Active duty, they are natural born citizens. They could apply for dual citizenship in Germany, but I don't think it makes it any easier for them to do that, than it would be for me to.

point of observation to some of the above posts, second class is a legal term that Donger is using, not slang or meant in a way to talk down to the process.

The world won't stop turning because of it any time soon.

exactly, I think people have become too racially sensitive.

I know, and we won't get away from this topic no matter how we try - but frankly, I'm not personally responsible for any of those racial injustices, yet I'd still be held personally accountable if I even partially crossed the politically correct social line because of those injustices, and I'm just sick and tired of it.

first I'm not angry at all, I'm discourage that a stupid college party is getting the attention of news media as "racial discrimination".

I don't consider myself racist...but if someone wants to act like a ... then I'm not afraid to think to myself, "wow, I'm going to get stabbed!" or "wow, I'm going to get robbed!"...

If I dressed like an idiot and acted like a fool in public I'd expect no different...

Shit, the black people I like that I work with hate hanging out at certain places around here because the people we're talking about can't behave themselves and it makes them feel like idiots since they get lumped in with that shit.

So If I dress urban, and not like "chad" from the burbs..then you would be afraid of me? ..shit let me put on some ****in flip flops, wrinkled shirt and plad shorts ..when its 30 degrees out..so I dont dress like an Idiot..

Thanks for proving my point. This is why we need Black history month. Because folks tend to see us all as the SAME , just like you said, we all get lumped in together. YOu never see that with white folks. YOu have so called "white trash" and then you have the the suburban folks..but the suburban folks never get lumped in with the white trash..but us, shit if one black guy acts a certain way...then we all do.

I don't know man...

You're probably right.

I pre-judge a lot of black people but it doesn't take much to change my mind...

all I know is the few black people I interact with pretty much are as racist towards the people I'm talking about as I am...they talk about not being able to go here and there because of all the black people that act like total lunatics.

and yeah white people do the same thing but lets be real...it's not even close to the same ratio...

like Whitlock says...

it's the black KKK that brings down the black people these days

And i dont know why fried chicken and watermelon is a 'black food' every white as snow country person ive ever met ate the same shit right down to poke greens.

No doubt, the majority of my family lives in North Carolina, and as kids we always ate fried chicken, watermelon, kool-aid, corn bread, and collard greens. I still to this day love all that food, never was a big fan of collard greens though.

Your right..white folks dont go shooting random people. They dont molest and rap and kidnap kids. They dont produce , sell and distrubute meth. They dont destroy an entire countrys economy because of greed...your right..its not even close to the same ratio.

Take it easy my man. There are a lot of black people, even females, who try to go out in public being "gangstas", loud, and shit like that. We all know that's true. I don't think you are encouraging that yourself. Kinda like that old dude doing the "Pants on the Ground" song. If anything, white people are more chickenshit in the way they express some things. Are there many punk whites who would jump a couple black kids if they thought they could get by with it? For sure is the answer to that. Perpetuating drastic stereotypes is something white people are guilty of too, but not to the degree of almost intimidation style "****a" approach stuff that SOME blacks do to white people that are scared to start. Older white people are still truly the racist ones in the end, they just never changed. The public image that is often presented that sticks out is the "balla" persona. I haven't read this whole thread, but wanted to make some comments. Who cares if these guys do this really? In a lot of ways it is just a joke and better that they just flat out make it halfway public. You won't see the older whites who are in power, and do make a practice to this day of holding blacks back, come right out and do something like this.
