I was watching this film and it dawned on me the question who is the worst serial killer. I lived in two cities that had serial killer and for my money i thought that btk was the worst cause of his deliberate planning. the south hill killer was more run of the mill kill hookers murderer.

So do you think is the worst serial killer and why? It's a interesting and strange subject.

I agree on the getting caught aspect. Does that really make them the worst, or the best?

I'd have to say Grape Nuts. It's like chewing rocks, and once you've tried Grape Nuts and gotten one of those hard, little, lumpy chunks embedded between a couple of your teeth and you can't get it out no matter how hard you try and you finally get a cramp in your tongue and a dislocated jaw from spending half an hour trying to dislodge that damnably irritating hunk of crap, it puts you off serial forever period. Besides, they contain neither grapes nor nuts, the bastards.

Gilles de Rais killed between 80 and 200 children, all after he raped them.

But first he would hang them and beat off on them as they hung, and then either decapitate them, disembowel them, or break their necks by hitting them with blunt objects.

After him, theres a little known guy named Pee Wee Gaskins... not as prolific, but maybe even more sadistic.

Didn't we have a big epically long poll on this a while back and everyone voted some fool that either set off a bomb or talked people into killing themselves win the poll?

I know bombings and follow me to suicide killings are terrible and all but IMO its worse to single handedly kill 20 people in single events vs setting off a bomb that kills 20 people.Having said that I think Gary Ridgway is far worse than all the bombers and follow me to hell retards. He was convicted of 48 murders, confessed to 71,but they believe he killed many more.To me,thats a serial killer.

America's first serial killer is considered by some to be the most prolific in our states. Dr. H.H. Holmes may have killed over a hundred people in the late 1800's.

Read The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It was a National Book Award Finalist.

Excellent book about the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and how H.H. Holmes used the fair to facilitate his desires.

Sr. year of college I took a graduate level seminar in French Lit in Translation. Most of the stuff we read was transgressive in nature (Batailles, Rimbaud, Sade, etc.) but one of the first pieces we read was on Gilles de Rais. My professor at the time (who wrote an eco-novel about a catfish named "Old Shithead", BTW) was interested in him, because his aristocratic bloodlines protected him much in the way that Michael Jackson's celebrity and wealth protected him. He thought they were interesting historical parallels, excepting the fact that MJ disemboweled the children in his "lair".

Those are the kind of classes that I looked forward to going to since they are actually interesting.

Ed Pysc teacher had us read books and write papers on Serial Killers. That class kicked ass.

Not to go off on a tangent, but who wrote the serial killer book that is written from a first-person perspective? I chose to read Hannibal (just released at the time) instead of it, but I can't remember the Author or Title.

I didn't know him well but he was a weird guy with a side of creepy. The funny thing was that they busted his neighbor 2 months before they caught him(drugs) and the whole street was filled with cops and the news etc. You have to know he was sweating bullets.

First murder at age 14, then "worked" for over 30 years without the police even sniffing him.

Dude used to take the bus from Jersey over to Manhattan to kill bums for fucking practice.

Over 200 victims, and the dude was fucking creative. One mob boss wanted a guy to suffer, so Kuklinski bound the guy, drove him to the middle of nowhere, sliced him up a bit, and then put him in a cave known to have swarms of big ass rats - who devoured him alive- and he fucking videotaped it.

Cyanide spray, throwing bodies into bottomless pits, disguising the time of death by freezing the corpse - guy was a fucking genius when it came to killing.

So, when the Iceman "thaws", he can't ... you know ... kill people anymore (unless they're in prison with him like other inmates or guards or visitors and all. He can kill them with a shiv or by strangulation or something, but he can't kill just normal people out on the street or at a disco.). So there was this famous song called "I fought the "law" and the "law" won, okay? And "law" rhymes with "thaw". So the "Iceman" "thawed" when the "thaw" won. See?

It's like a pun, see? Like when two words rhyme and you get a different meaning, but it kinda makes sense in a way. For example, if the guy's name was "Bill" instead of "Iceman", it wouldn't work. But, since the guy's name is "Iceman" and since he's a criminal and since there was this song called "I fought the law and the law won" and since "law" rhymes with "thaw", it still kind of makes sense in a way, but you just replace the word "law" with "thaw". See?

Do you believe he committed those atrocities?

I haven't researched it much but I don't trust the Catholic Church and their evil history.

It seems odds that a man with his background would suddenly start killing children and performing sexual acts on his victims.

I'm not stating he didn't, it's just I think the Catholic Church shouldn't be trusted in this instance.

I don't know who the worst is, I think there have been some good mentions made here. One to look into is Paul Bernardo and his Wife Kathy Holmoka (sp), the ken and barbie killers. Not the worst, but interesting. Anyone who is into reading about this, the show Criminal Minds is a great show for this
subject matter.

Leonard Lake and Charles Ng is another one, Lake killed himself with a cyanide capsule that was hidden in a false crown in his tooth during his 1st interrogation.

Involved by the Church has been wholly discredited by historians.

I remember that first pair well. I was living in Buffalo at the time and they covered the disappearance of Kristen French on the local news. The wife, if I remember, got off with little or no jail time because she testified against the husband.

Lake and Ng made a snuff films of their murders...I believe some were shown in court. Crazy.

Didn't Bernardo and Holmoka get jail time? I could have sworn they did and Holmoka was released recently.

I just looked. I guess she did 12 years and was released in 2005. There's no way she should be out of prison for what they did.

Can someone recommend a good book that talks about different serial killers and what they did. I love reading about this stuff. What would be interesting was if there was a real life Dexter (best show on TV).

I have an interesting book called Bloodletters and Badmen,it's on criminals as a whole but includes serial killers as well.Note though it's a little dated but still a good read.
