Chiefs trying to hold onto their own
by Aaron Wilson

INDIANAPOLIS - Kansas City Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli said today that the team has been working to re-sign wide receiver Chris Chambers, outside linebacker Mike Vrabel and safety Mike Brown, among other pending free agents.

The Chiefs completed deals with running back Kolby Smith and quarterback Matt Gutierrez earlier this week.

'We’ve had conversations with most all of our players that are free agents, including some restricted free agents, too,' Pioli said today at the NFL scouting combine. "We’ve had conversations with all of them. We’re trying to keep some guys in the fold. That’s a big part of free agency as well.

"It’s not only going out and signing other players. It’s also trying to hold on to the ones you want to keep here as well.'

Pioli predicted that the Chiefs will explore the free agent market despite the new environment of the uncapped year.

'We were active last year,' Pioli said. 'What happens sometimes is you try to be active and you don’t always get deals done. We’re going to try to improve our team and supplement our team with free agents this year, as we did last year. We’ll be involved with free agency. Absolutely.'

Following a 4-12 season, Pioli made the point that the team can get better in every area, including at general manager.

And we want to keep Touchdown Brown why?

The only convo with Brown should have been "Well...bye."

I don't mind if the keep Vrabel. We really really need to keep Chambers. IF WE RESIGN MIKE BROWN IM NOT GOING TO BE VERY HAPPY!!!!!!! He's the worst safety to have ever worn a Chiefs uniform.

no derrick johnson eh?

He's a RFA because of the year being uncapped so he's Chiefs property either way.

I'm glad to hear they're trying to keep Chambers. He was a great pickup, and it's nice to have a reliable #2 again. Haven't really had that since Eddie Kennison.

Well, that's better than Winger, Warrant, or Boston's own shite-pile; EXTREME!LMAO

Pioli probably hates Extreme; they require "more than words".

Don't worry, Russ Okung will stand on the sideline and tackle defenders with his mind like Darth Vader crushes tracheas.

I dont get the hate for vrabel. He was the most reliable tackler on our team. Personally id rather see stud start but if nothing else, vrabel is good depth. Re-sign him.

Now brown on the other hand can go fist himself with a porcupine.

I thought he was our best linebacker last year, all-in-all. Unfortunately he couldn't rush the passer, and that's something we desperately need from that position.
