March 20th I take my 4th degree as a "Knight of Columbus"
http://www.kofc.org/eb/en/about/index.html

The 4th degree involves gaining a Knighthood in the fraternity and is also it's highest rank in the order.
http://www.kofc.org/un/eb/en/fourth/index.html

I was up for it 2 years ago, but went out of province for employment, 3 weeks prior to the event taking place.
There's a nice get together afterwards, and a mass with teh honor guard in full regalia.
Unlike the other "degree's" which are member only when you go through them, my wife and son will be there for a small part of it for photos afterwards :)

And here I was a bible thump'en, Watchtower & Awake slinging, door pounding "get your azz up and listen the end of the world is here", self proclaimed only true religion Jehovaha's Witness only scant years ago.
Now ain't that a pip!

I don't know much about anything you were just talking about. Nevertheless, congratulations OH. It sounds like a great accomplishment.

My dad was a Knight. All I remember is that we'd always have Christmas parties at the local hall, and they always had a good turnout for the Columbus Day Parade.

I still have my life insurance with K of C. I feel bad 'cause they send me their highly-Catholic Columbia magazine, and it's got pictures of the Pope on it, and I'm pretty much agnostic/atheist so I toss it in the trash but there's just enough residue of my Catholic upbringing that I feel really guilty about it. LMAO

Cool, Over-Head. My dad is a Knight, and I'm sure one of these days I'll join the club. It's a great organization, with all the service they do. My dad just led a multi-school spelling bee for kids. Promoting educational competition? Count me a supporter. And you can't beat those All You Can Eat Fish Fry Fridays or Sunday breakfasts. And Columbia is a very good magazine.

There was a K of C member who worked the cigar/tobacco section of this giant bookstore/magazine outlet next to Pizza Hut on Mass St. in Lawrence who I used to talk to about that. He said there was an active reward available to anyone who could prove the authenticity of that document/decree.

ha. I received my 3rd degree, and became a master mason when I was in college. my grandfather was a 33 degree, which is the highest you could get. He was told by many he would not be welcome in a catholic church. I don't get that though, because I thought anyone and everyone was welcome in any church.

It's my understanding that the Vatican has relaxed restrictions on membership in the Order but not too long ago, you could get excommunicated for it.

I was 3rd in the Blue and 32 in the AASR FWIW, but I'm no longer active.
