Colts add an offensive lineman

After suddenly and abruptly dumping guard Ryan Lilja, the Indianapolis Colts have added a player who could end up replacing him.

The team announced today that guard Andy Alleman, a restricted free agent, has been signed to a contract.

Alleman was a third-round draft choice of the Saints in 2007. He was inactive for 15 games as a rookie, and he was cut after the season. He landed with the Dolphins, and he appeared in 15 games during the 2008 season.

In 2009, the Dolphins traded him to the Chiefs. He appeared in nine games last season, with three starts.

The Chiefs did not extend a tender offer to Alleman; thus, he was free to sign with any team.

[I'm still skeptical about Scout.com's report on Lilja's failed physical, even though it seems plausible. Scout has been wrong more than once. I'll wait and see how it plays out this coming season. Kudos to Dane in advance if his theory on Lilja being washed up proves to be true. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, right? :)]

Kudos to Dane?

You're and idiot for thinking Lilja was some sort of upgrade...I'd rather have Mike Goff than Ryan Lilja.

Alleman sucked anyways. I don't care.

So if he is a restricted free agent, doesn't that mean that the Chiefs should be getting a pick for him?

We didn't tender him an offer, so no.

I guess Alleman isn't covered under the final eight rule because he wasn't tendered. It'll be interesting to see if he becomes a starter.
