1. Taylor Mays is not going to be there at 36. Jerry Hughes is the best pure pass-rushing 3-4 OLB in the draft. I'd place the likely hood of him being available at 50 low.

Sweet, when did Norwood become a 5th round prospect overnight?

Using their rankins,

5. CB Haden FL
36. NT Cody AL
50. LB Hughes TCU
68. C Walton BU
99. LB Chaney MSU
132. WR Cooper FL
l38. OG Beadles UT
140. TE Peek AL

I took Haden with the idea of moving Carr to FS and Page to SS. I'm not sold on either Bradford or Claussen.

God it would be tempting to take Jason Pierre-Paul if he was sitting there at 36!

5. Earl Thomas, S; Texas (him or CJ Spiller, we may not "need" him, but I think he's the best back in the league in 2-3 years and better than Charles.)
36. Taylor Mays, S; USC (won't make it out of the top 25)
50. Jerry Hughes, OLB; TCU
68. Cam Thomas, NT; North Carolina
99. Kyle Calloway, OT; Iowa
132. Matt Tennant, C; BC
138. Riley Cooper, WR; Florida
140. Clay Harbor, TE; Missouri State (yeah he's not on their list but he should be and he's worth the pick)

Wouldn't have necessarily guessed that it would play out that way but with Thomas & Mays, we'd have probably one of the best secondary's in the league. With Hughes we'd help our pass rush and with Thomas we'd actually have a legit NT. Calloway is better than O'Callaghan now and Tennant at 132 is a steal. Cooper because we need a WR and I think he'll be better than Williams or Alexander. Harbor is going to be a stud.

Why?

He's a way better prospect than that. Lots of people have him going to the Raiders at #8. We don't really need him but thats a lot of value

There are a multitude of mocks that have norwood dropping into the third, and he plays at a premium position. While I disagree with the rankings on mtd, norwoods is hardly the battle I would pick.

I'm simply pointing out that Norwood = 140 which basically grades him out close to a mid 5th round talent is pretty damn bad. There's a big difference between potentially slipping into the 3rd and being mid 5th quality.

Norwood could very easily go in the 4th round, he hasn't done anything to stand out in the offseason while numerous other guys have.

BryanBusby
03-13-2010, 08:00 PM
He could flirt with the territory, but I still think he will go in the 3rd although he hasn't really stuck out during offseason workouts.

Mecca

Norwoods problem is a bunch of other guys who'll be the same have been more impressive in the offseason.

He's also a little short.

ohhhh, he stuck out. He sucked all week at the senior bowl and didnt do anything to raise his stock at the combine.

He will be a good value in the late third.

I think Norwood is more looking at mid 3rd as his high side, he could easily fall into the late 4th.

BryanBusby
03-13-2010, 08:06 PM
I think he'll be a 3rd rounder, but I'll go ahead and take the flak if he drops far into round 4.

Mecca

Ok tell me who's going to take him and where you'd rate him in the rushbacker listings because I can think of numerous that have passed him at this point.

BossChief

Nobody gets flack for missing a round for a mid round prospect Bryan.

Its when you say things like "Id rather rape myself with a toilet brush than draft Brian Orakpo" that will get ya a little flack.

:p

It really depends who you view could make the transition over to a 3-4 OLB well.

Mecca

Just go with the guys that it's pretty obvious will be looked at as OLBs

Mecca
03-13-2010, 08:17 PM
I'm going to give you a big list and you can tell me where Norwood falls..

Jason Pierre Paul
Sergio Kindle
Jerry Hughes
Brandon Graham
Derrick Morgan is being looked at as a guy that can play standing
Everson Griffen
Greg Hardy
Jermaine Cunningham
George Selvie
Koa Misi
Thaddeus Gibson
Jason Worilds

With that many do you now see how he could easily drop?

BossChief
03-13-2010, 08:19 PM
Kinda crazy, but the only player I would consider trading up for (from our 2nd if he fell past 23 or so) would be Brandon Graham because of him being an ideal fit for our LOLB spot but he likely wont be targeted because he is a good pass rusher and doesnt have the size they look for.

Mecca
03-13-2010, 08:19 PM
I don't think Graham is going to fall very far, he's been pretty impressive for the most part.

If Parcells gets over his size obsession he should take him with their pick but we'll see.

BryanBusby
03-13-2010, 08:22 PM
I'll go off a few sites that list players as 3-4 OLB's and rank 'em myself

1. Jason Paul-Pierre
2. Sergio Kindle
3. Brandon Graham
4. Everson Griffen
5. Jerry Hughes
6. Ricky Sapp
7. Eric Norwood

Teams seem to make a quick grab at these types of players in the draft and we now have 2 more 3-4 teams in the draft this round. I'm going to predict the absolute latest he goes is early 4th to Washington.

E: Didn't list Morgan and Griffen because I think they have much value in a 4-3.
E2: I don't put much stock into offseason workouts, so keep that in mind plz

Mecca
03-13-2010, 08:24 PM
Griffen can play standing, I don't know if I'd try it but he's going to be listed there by every 3-4 team so you should put him in your rankings and he's going ahead of Norwood.

I actually think the player you should watch to determine Norwoods stock is Thad Gibson, if he goes higher than Norwood, Norwood is going to be a 4th rounder.

BryanBusby
03-13-2010, 08:25 PM
I'll go ahead and add Griffen. Not very high on the idea of it, but he is capable.

Another note to add, 12 prospects that were viewed as capable 3-4 rush backers went in the first 3 rounds of the draft last year. Teams really like to draft the hell out of pass-rushers.

And what makes Graham ideal for a 3-4 LOLB? Seriously. I'd like to know.

By that, you have to go with Syd'Quan Thompson in the fourth. He's twice the player as anyone else.
